6/18/2016 Update: Bella was ADOPTED!!!!Bella found her perfect family! They are seriously peas in a pod in her foster moms eyes! Bella must speak English because she ran out to the car all day long when she heard she was going to meet her new foster family. Once she even attempted to get in the trunk when her foster mom was removing groceries. We met at a dog park and Bella and her new brother Fat Louie really seemed to be totally okay with each other. It was hot so love at first sight was out of the question. However, Bella knew she was going to go with them whether they liked it or not! She kept pulling foster mom back towards their car!  Things here are a little less joyous and the kids are a bit sad… But knowing that Bella has a lifetime home and also knowing that we will get another foster very soon keeps us going. In the words of my 6 year old ‘Bella couldn’t be anywhere better and we have a world full of Bulldogs that need help!’

6/12/2016 Update: Austin had its hands full this weekend as Bella and her foster family went on a little vacation! Bella has been healing so well that her foster family decided to take her on a little adventure to Austin this weekend. Bella was really excited because she thought she was going to get to see all of the motorcycles at Rot Rally. Sadly for her she only got to see them from the car on the way into town. Which is too bad because she would’ve looked totally adorable in a leather vest and a helmet. She spent the weekend lounging with her foster family in front of the big windows at the house she was visiting. She loved the fact that she could enjoy all of the sunshine with the comfort of the air conditioning! She was happy to meet the two chihuahuas who were hosting her stay and she had such fun with them!  She also tried to help alert her foster mom when a bird flew in the house… But her foster mom was not fast enough to stop the bird at the big double door. Bella had an amazing time watching her foster mom run back and fourth trying to help the wayward bird get back out. She was so helpful running back and fourth with her foster mom barking orders and planning escape routes for the little birdie.  After six days of fun Bella was ready to head home. She knows she is getting her stitches out this week and can’t wait for a car ride to the vet! Even after all she has been through she still is so happy to go in there because she knows they made her all better!

6/5/2016 Update:  Bella is such a trooper!  She had her tail removed on Tuesday and hasn’t let it slow her down a bit.  As soon as she came out of her medicated fog she was all smiles and wags.  Her surgical section is doing pretty well.  We had a slight incident on Friday which caused it to bleed a bit.  I whisked Bella off to the vet and she was not in the least bit phased.  She was so excited about the car ride it was almost like it was a Sunday stroll for her. The vet said it was a normal thing that can occur with type of surgery and that we shouldn’t worry.  I am going to be taking her back to the vet tomorrow to have it all checked out again just in case.

Bella has become pretty hip to the fact that I am now giving her pills… she takes about 10 a day.  So, we now have a fun game we play in our house called ‘what can we put the pills in to fool the dog!’  It keeps the whole family on our toes and it’s never a dull moment.

Bella finally got to experience fireworks!  They don’t scare her at all but she barks at them as if to protect us.  Which is going to make for an exciting month since we have fireworks every Friday, Saturday and Sunday right by our house.  She will be a pro at protecting her future forever family from the booming lights in the sky.  We did have another bout of insane thunder the other night.  She wasn’t phased in the least but she did get up and check each room to make sure everyone was safe and sound and then went back to bed.  *Awe* it was incredibly sweet.

Bella is waiting patiently to get the all clear so she can play again.  She is pretty patient but she is dying for a game of fetch!  We are just giving her lots and lots of lovins’ until we know she won’t bust out a stitch!

5/30/2016 Update:  Bella had her surgery!  The vet said she did such a good job.  Bella has been doing a lot of sleeping and healing since then. Her foster family has taken turns sleeping near her so she knows she isn’t alone.  Her waking time has consisted of taking lots of pills to keep her healthy after the surgery.  She is pretty sleepy and doesn’t want to take them but her foster mom is working diligently to get them all down.  Bella gets to take another car ride (her favorite) to see the vet on Friday to check and make sure she is in tip top shape!

5/23/2016 Update:  Bella just keeps getting better!  She is not only sweet but very brave when it comes to terrifying things in the life of a dog.  She has absolutely zero fear of thunderstorms or vacuums! She is so fine with my vacuuming that she won’t move until I ask her very very nicely!

We took Bella out on a lunch date this week and she had an incredible time.  She is obviously the kind of girl that likes to be wined and dined.  She received lots and lots of love and attention from not only the patrons but the wait staff as well.  Just know when you take Bella on a date she immediately shoots into the spotlight and you’re going to be caught up in it (it’s almost like being quasi famous!)

She does a wonderful job at sitting near her foster parents and doesn’t go looking for attention.  She clearly knows that it will come to her.  After lunch she wanted to take a romantic stroll down the trinity trails.  She is pretty darn light on her toes and doesn’t pull for a dame of her size and strength.  She does however have a few chins (don’t tell her I said so!) so her collar can slip off pretty easily.   Luckily, thus far she has had zero interest in getting too far… like 5 feet tops… so I haven’t had to worry yet.

Bella is currently shedding her winter coat so her foster mom has learned that black is not a clothing option this shedding season.  She loves being brushed AND when we gave her a mani/pedi we found out that she has the easiest nails to trim!  You can see the quick from a mile away so there is no guessing with this dog!  This isn’t her favorite ritual of all time (I think someone told her long nails were in this season), but she will lay on her back while you finish the job and sigh from time to time.

This laid back lady is going to make someone an extremely proud owner!

5/16/2016 Update:  The precious pooch has the biggest heart I’ve ever seen.  No wonder she was given the body to hold it!

Bella is done with her antibiotics and I can say she isn’t too pleased about that!  With the meds came the delicious treats and this has been a heartbreaking realization for her.  Don’t worry!  Her foster mom is on the hunt to find some tasty and delicious treats that will fit into her diet!  The more time she spends with her foster family the more comfortable she is getting.  She is now eating her recommended dosage of food a day, which is really good because her foster mom was afraid she was going to waste away!

I cannot stress enough how much Bella loves to play.  She absolutely adores the time she gets to spend playing with my 5 and 6 year old boys.  They were gone for one night and I thought poor Bella was going to need meds to get her out of her funk! She played with me half-heartedly but frankly I think they are probably a little more fun than I am! When the boys arrived home the next day Bella ran lap after lap around the house and even tried to get on the bed to say hello to them (This is a first for Bella, she isn’t big on attempting the bed)!

Bella still loves to spend time outside. She loves the tan but she also really wants to be with her humans. She is happy to lounge out in the backyard or get her toy and play, play, play! Either option is fine with her. Speaking of being near her humans., Bella has finally decide to sleep in her second bed by her foster mom at night. She is also a fig fan of her rug in the kitchen., when foster mom is cooking and her rug outside of the bathroom when her foster mom is showering. It is pretty clear she is quite the little follower.

Bella is loved by all she meets! Including her foster Grandpa, who really isn’t a big fan of dogs… he couldn’t stop loving on her and taking pictures to send to his cronies. If you are in the market for a 60 lb. ball of joy and love, this is the precious pup for you!.

5/9/2016 Update:  Oh sweet joyous Bella!  She is the happiest dog I’ve have ever met. She adores her humans and wants to be with us all the time. Bella loves to play with toys! She loves to fetch and she has one heck of a jump. She adores laps through the house with the kids and I must admit, it makes her so happy. I do it a couple of times a day as well.  She is always up for petting and lovins, when she gets comfortable she actually purrs. When she doesn’t have.. anyone to entertain her, she is big on getting her beauty sleep. Sometimes she would rather sleep in the morning than wake up and go potty. On that note, she is perfectly potty trained and as not had any accidents.

Unlike the normal bulldog, Bella adores spending time outside. She loves to sit on the front porch with her foster mom and people watch. She must’ve heard me say if you can’t tone it, tan it, because she loves to work on her summer tan until her foster mom says she is getting to hot and forces her back inside.

Bella is now totally fine eating all on her own and she has quite the delicate appetite for a larger lady. No doubt with all of this exercise she is getting her summer body ready!
We have two more days of antibiotics and she is all done! Her foster mom buries her pills in something delicious so she doesn’t have the heart to not take them. Bella’s tail seems to be doing much better. She doesn’t mind the time or attention that is paid to it during the day to make it all better.

Bella’s foster Mom states “I have no words to describe how much joy is wrapped into this bulldog body. She is so happy, kind, sweet and so loving. If she feels you are too far away she will lay under your feet and she makes an amazing ottoman!”

5/2/2016 Update:  Bella is AMAZING. She will take all of the love and hugs she can get.  Bella’s tail issue currently requires daily cleaning and antibiotics and Bella has no problem sitting still while we get her tail cleaned up and she takes her medicine like a champ. Her eyes can get goopy so a careful cleaning helps her to see.

When Bella first arrived, she would not eat unless hand fed.  Feeding is getting a bit easier though.  I do still have to start with hand feeding and then we move on to me holding the bowl.  But tonight, after I set the bowl down, Bella continued to eat on her OWN.

She is perfectly potty trained and loves to romp outside.  Bella also likes to chase cats…and she is FAST.  She may like to eat them as well, we aren’t sure, since she isn’t fast enough to actually catch one.  She is great with kids and other dogs.  And she loves to play with her humans.  She also loves to spend time outside when the temperature is nice and work on her tan.

Car rides are a big joy in Bella’s life.  She is a larger lady, but will get in the car without hesitation.  She loves everyone she meets, especially if they give her some scratches and rubs.  Bella is not much for getting on the furniture but she loves to lay in the living room surrounded by family.  She prefers sleeping in the living room where she can monitor all activities throughout the night.  We have only heard Bella bark once and there was a cat involved.  She didn’t even bark when the pizza guy knocked on the door yesterday…she just happily headed toward the door.

Bella is all around pretty much the best dog on earth.  She is so happy, I have no words to describe the joy she exudes.  The only thing she asks for is love and to be near her humans…except at night when she sleeps in the living room.  Bella loves to catch up on her beauty sleep and has quite the snore for a lady.

4/29/2016: Please welcome Bella to the NBBR rescue family.

Bella is a 5 year old female Bulldog that LOVES everyone she meets.  In fact, we don’t think that Bella has ever met a stranger.  She even likes the dreaded “C-words”…CATS.  Bella is a well taken care of owner surrender.  Due to health issues for Bella (tail issues) and her owner, it became impossible for her owner to continue to care for Bella.  A very difficult decision was made as her owner knew it was in the best interest of Bella.

After a quick stop at the clinic, a couple of things were noted about Bella.  The first is “Girl likes to eat”.  Bella is a little on the “curvy” side and with the help of her foster mom she will be working on shedding a few pounds and getting ready for swimsuit weather.  The other item noted is that Bella has a very severely infected tail.  Ultimately her tail will need to be removed, but before that can happen, she will need to be on some antibiotics.  Besides an occasional snack or two, Bella LOVES to ride in the car.  When she first met her foster mom, she jumped right into the front seat and was ready to go.  She appears to be very laid back and did very well meeting her new foster siblings.  Stay tuned for more information on Miss Bella as she begins her journey to find her new forever family. .
