9/9/2017 Update:   Today, September 9, 2017, one of the sweetest bulldogs ever to walk this earth earned his angel’s wings.

Buddy came into No Borders Bulldog Rescue on December 1, 2016.  Two of our Houston volunteers drove to Baton Rogue that day to rescue Buddy from a local animal shelter where he had endured for three months.  Buddy immediately knew his life had changed for the better, and he wanted to sit in the front seat with his soon to be foster dad all the way back to Tomball.

Buddy was a skinny little guy, only 38 pounds of skin and bones, but 100% full of life.  He was amazed to find that not only did he had a nice comfortable doggy bed all his own, but he also had two big foster brothers and one pesky foster sister.  Little Buddy had hit the big time and he was just so happy. Buddy let his foster siblings know from the very beginning that he was a lovable, sweet and tender little bully who just wanted to play and be loved.  He got plenty of both.  In fact his foster sister Margo made sure Buddy never wanted for attention and affection.  Margo would play with Buddy until he was absolutely exhausted, and then she would lay by his side and give his beautiful bulldog heed a tongue bath to beat the ages.  Buddy’s response was to purr just like he would do when foster dad and mom would pet him and hug him.  Buddy even began a routine with his foster dad.  Every night Buddy would stroll over to his foster dad’s easy chair and first put one paw on foster dad’s foot and then his head on top of his paw.  Just like Buddy, always returning the love he received with love of his own

In the past several months Buddy’s health began to decline.  First, Buddy suffered a stroke.  Then her was diagnosed with three large malignant tumors in his abdomen, lung, and sternum.  Finally, today Buddy could fight the good fight no longer.  He passed away with foster dad stroking his head and giving him gentle kisses on his cheek.  While Buddy never was adopted he was loved.  He spent the last month of his life in comfort and with the love he deserved.  He was a gentle soul that has crossed over Rainbow Bridge.  And while he is no longer with us in body, he will always be remembered and loved.

1/31/2017 Update: Buddy had anther great week in his foster home.  This sweet and gentle bully made an amazing discovery – he loves whipped cream!  His laid back demeanor makes him a perfect fit for just about any family.  And remember, if you pet him or cuddle with him he’ll purr for you.

1/17/2017  Update: Buddy had his doctor’s appointment yesterday with the ophthalmologist at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists.  The good news is that 1) he now weighs 42.5 pounds, and 2) He does not have entropion.  He has a condition known as Corneal Degeneration.  It’s a sign that he’s getting older and that his eyesight will decline over the years in his left eye.  He does not need surgery, but will most likely require daily eye drops which can be purchased over the counter at any drugstore.

So, Buddy is “good to go” physically should someone be ready to adopt him.  In the meantime, he had a great week.  He went to the pet spa on Saturday with his fur foster siblings.  He got a bath, his nails trimmed, and he got a blueberry facial.  He is really enjoying being part of the pack, and especially enjoys the company of my bullies Margo and Otis.  Buddy is the consummate cuddler.  He’ll jump on the couch and get as close to me as he can, and then he is ready to be petted for as long as one desires.  If I do a good job he starts purring.  He is a joy and really a perfect fit for anyone with any size back yard.  He does drink a lot of water and usually will go outside immediately after drinking water.  No physical problem, just his habit.  He is a very sweet and laid back bully, though not real energetic.  Maybe that will come more the stronger he gets.  In the interim, he’s living life in comfort and enjoying his fur foster siblings.

12/18/2016 Update:  Buddy had a great week.  He went to the vet this past Saturday for an eye and ear re-check.  Both looked fine, although the vet thought Buddy might have an eye condition called Entropian (not sure if I spelled that correctly).  So, I’m going to continue his eye drops and we’ll see how he does.  He gained another pound and is now up to 39 and a half pounds.  He is a very gentle little guy.  He gets along so well with my bullies (even though my bully Sarge is sometimes grumpy) especially Margo.  She gave Buddy a complete head and ear licking yesterday, and Buddy really enjoyed that.  One thing has surfaced with Buddy that is really funny and unique — he “purrs” when he’s content.  It’s a manly bulldog purr of course, but I’ve never heard a bulldog do this.   So, you’ll always know when Buddy is happy because you’ll hear him!

12/9/2016 Update: Just a quick update on buddy.  He has completely acclimated into our home.  He is a very sweet and QUIET little bully.  He gets along very well with all three of my bullies; he just wants to be part of the group.  He follows me around the house like a little shadow.  His house training is coming along very well.  No accidents in three days.  He’s really gotten the idea about going outside to do his business.  One last thing, we’ve learned that Buddy can really snore!  He is very loud when he snores, but he’ adorable.

12/2/2016 Update:   Buddy went to the vet today and all in all it went well. There was some good news and some not as good news, but nothing too bad.

The not so good news is that Buddy has several infections. Both of his ears are severely infected as well as one eye and a minor skin infection. But considering Buddy was found as a stray, and spent several months in a shelter, it’s nothing some antibiotics and TLC can’t cure.

The good news is that even though Buddy is very very thin (38 lbs.), the clinic said his heart and lungs are very strong. He is also Heartworm negative and no more intestinal parasites were found. They also said Buddy is a fighter and once he has gained some much needed weight he will become a completely new bulldog. Buddy has already started to show what a wonderful personality he has too. He quickly became acquainted with his new foster siblings (Bulldogs) and all are getting along well.  Even though Buddy may have hit a recent bump in his lifelong journey, things have made a turn for the better.

The next few weeks Buddy’s routine will be centered around, resting, regaining his strength, fighting off his infections and gaining the much needed weight. It shouldn’t be too hard for him, because hey, who doesn’t gain weight around the holidays.

12/1/2016 Update:  Please welcome Buddy to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family.  Buddy is a 7 year old male English Bulldog that weighs 38 lbs.

Where do we begin with Mr. Buddy? Buddy was found as a stray in a far, far away town from No Borders Bulldog Rescue, 285 miles to be exact. However, it was fate when one our volunteers spotted Buddy on a shelter website and fell in love.

When Buddy was found running the streets, he was taken immediately to the local animal shelter. Buddy’s situation went from bad to good relatively quickly. He had the good fortune of having a family that wanted to adopt him.  The good news was very short lived. When Buddy went to his new home and had an accident in the house, he was immediately returned to the shelter. It was determined that he had the accident because he had diarrhea due to intestinal worms, his new family didn’t care and decided they did not want him after all.

Buddy spent 3 months in the shelter. Every day was the same, families would look at him and continue to walk by to pick other dogs. According to the shelter staff this quickly took a toll on Buddy’s personality. He went from a playful energetic Bulldog to a Bulldog that just kept his head down in his cage. He became so depressed by the lack of human interaction that he wouldn’t even look up at the people, he only lifted his eyebrows and then looked back down to the floor. As the time increased in the shelter, Buddy’s depression got worse.  Just as it looked liked Buddy wouldn’t survive his stay in the shelter, his guardian angel saw him on the website while doing a search for Bulldogs in need.

Two of the No Borders Bulldog Rescue volunteers made the drive to get Buddy. The shelter staff said that as soon as our volunteers arrived and talked to Buddy it was like he knew his fate had changed. He wasn’t sure what was going on, but he started jumping around and getting really excited. He wanted to cuddle and almost instantly his old fun loving personality seemed to come back.

Buddy jumped into the car and was ready to start the next chapter in his journey. He made the 285 mile trip back to his new foster home like a champ.  Obviously he was worn out, he had a little snack and went right to bed.  Please keep Buddy in your thoughts and prayers as he visits the clinic to determine what medical issues need to be addressed. We will have more information available after his visit tomorrow.
