1/6/2018 Update:

Daisy was ADOPTED!!!  What better way to start 2018 than with a new forever family? According to Daisy: NOTHING!

Daisy joined the No Borders Bulldog Family as a Good Samaritan surrender.  Daisy’s previous family member had health concerns so the family decided to sell Daisy and her sister.   Daisy’s sister quickly found a new home. However, due to the fact Daisy is almost 90% bald, it was more difficult for her.  Luckily a Good Samaritan found her ad and saved her.  Being a bald Bulldog isn’t unheard of, but there aren’t many foster families with that type of experience. NBBR, like other rescues, did not have a foster family with this type of experience. BUT we did have an Instagram friend that did…….

A couple of calls where made to pick our friend’s brains as to what special attention Daisy would need.  They were a wealth of information. Since they had had a Bulldog without fur they were the experts we needed.  After talking for awhile our experts not only gave us much needed advice they decided that they would foster Daisy until she could find her forever home.  Well…. you guessed it, Daisy found her forever home the day she arrived at her foster home.  And  since Daisy’s fur siblings are rescued Bulldogs as well, they now have the rescue tri-fecta.  Daisy and her foster sister immediately became best friends.  Daisy’s forever Mom said it is amazing how Daisy has helped her sister come out of her shell and be more playful.  Daisy’s brother was another story, he tended to sit across the room and watch Daisy with a little side eye. But he eventually warmed up and gave his stamp of approval for Daisy to join the family.  Not only did Daisy score a new Mom, Dad, sister and brother but the family bought a new house just so Daisy would have a bigger yard to run and exercise.  Daisy is quite a bit more active than her two siblings and will put that backyard to good use for sure.  Congratulations are in order for the entire family. Enjoy your new house AND each other.

9/18/2017 Update:  Miss Daisy is such a sweet girl. She is 3 years old but still has a lot of puppy left in her.  She plays hard, cuddles hard, and sleeps hard. She loves her toys, her wresting time with Spaetzle and her snuggle time with Hans. She even convinced Bratwurst (grumpy old man) to play for a while.

We have taken her to the dog park a few times and she loves it.  She has absolutely ZERO aggression in her, but she is strong and can get overly excited with small dogs and kids. She just wants to play but doesn’t realize her size so she may not be best with small children. She not an alpha female and falls in line with the pack easily. She is VERY smart and learns things quickly.

She did learn how to slip out of her collar, so she has to be walked with a harness. She also met a few cats. She didn’t react and was gentle with going to smell them.  They hissed and swatted at her so she jumped back and then kept a safe distance. She wouldn’t go after a cat and once the cat got used to her they would be fine – most likely the best of friends.

We are still working with Daisy on some manners (pulling on the leash, pawing at people for attention). She is fully potty trained and smart as a whip.

9/3/2017 Update:  Miss Daisy has been with us for a week now, and she has made herself right at home. She is a high-energy dog who loves to play. When the other dogs are tired or don’t want to play, she knows how to entertain herself. She even remembers where the toys are and won’t hesitate to pull them all out until she finds the perfect one. Daisy is perfectly potty trained, great with people and other dogs. She spends hours playing with our little one, Spaetzle, and is playful but gentle. When she isn’t playing, she wants to be snuggled up to a person. She doesn’t know her own size and thinks she is a lapdog.

Daisy loves her walks, but prefers to have Spaetzle there. When she can’t find Spaetzle, she keeps looking around for her. This morning, we took Daisy and Spaetzle to the dog park. They both had a blast! Daisy loves to explore and go meet new dogs.  She loves to run around and play with the other dogs. She had perfect manners, meeting the dogs and their people. The whole time, though, she kept a close eye on Spaetze to make sure she was safe. It was the sweetest thing.

8/23/2017 Update:  Please welcome Daisy to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family.  Daisy is a 3 year old female English Bulldog weighing 60 pounds.

Daisy joined the NBBR family as an owner surrender. When Daisy’s previous owner’s wife became ill, Daisy and her fur sibling were left alone in the apartment while he took care of his wife in another state.  The owner’s niece and other family members would go over to take them out and feed them every day.  After time, the niece was told to sell Daisy and her fur sibling as the family needed money. And Daisy and her sister were listed on Craigslist.  Her sister found a home right away, but it was taking longer for Daisy.  Fortunately for Daisy, a group of good Samaritans saw her ad and decided she needed to be rescued.  They raised the necessary funds to secure her safety and asked NBBR if we could help with her medical needs and to find her the perfect forever home.

Daisy is a true testament that it does take a village to rescue a  Bulldog. In true NBBR fashion, Daisy was approximately 4.5 hours from our headquarters. The transport wasn’t the hard part, the hard part was we were bursting at the seams and it would take a few days to find a suitable foster home for Daisy. But thanks to our good friends at EBRN in Houston, Daisy was able to crash on their couch for a few days while we worked out the details of her transition to her foster family.

Once the details were completed for Daisy, her first stop was the clinic.  The first thing you notice when you meet Daisy is she is almost bald (there are little wisps of fur). This is how she got her nickname of “the Bald Diva” . There were many guesses as to what might be causing this: mange? thyroid issues? severe skin infections? genetic issues?  While we aren’t 100% sure yet, we have ruled out several of the guesses. Daisy does not have mange. When her thyroid function was tested it was low normal, because of this Dr. H decided to send out an additional test to completely rule out hypothyroidism  Daisy does have a severe skin infection.  Her list of aliments just start with her lack of hair.  In addition to being the “bald diva” she was covered in fleas, had a SEVERE UTI and had some gunk (not the official medical term) in her eyes.  Daisy also needed to be spayed.  So after a couple of days of R & R at the clinic she was released with a bag o’medicine to join her foster home.  Daisy will be on several antibiotics and antifungal medications and will require medicated baths. We will be on a wait and see basis to determine how much, if any, of her fur will return.

What Daisy currently lacks in fur she more than makes up for in personality. Daisy is just about the sweetest little girl you would ever meet. She loves everyone and her entire butt wiggles when she meets anyone new. Daisy is living proof that “bald is beautiful” and if she did have all of her hair she would be so beautiful she would intimidate all the other Bullies.
Stay tuned for more details as we allow Daisy to heal and blossom into the Bulldog she was meant to be.
