4/21/2018 Update:  Dozer is still doing great despite his diagnosis in December.  He is a very happy, busy boy that wants to be wherever the people are.

If he isn’t busy sleeping in the sun or on The couch, he is trying to get on the nearest bed.  He has decided he loves to play with stuffed animals and investigate the garbage can when no one is looking.
As long as this boy gets enough rest he is as active as he ever was, maybe more so.  He has put on weight since December and his mobility has improved some.
Dozer may not have years left, but he sure is making the most of the time he does have.

12/10/2017 Update:  Today we got some sad news about Mr. Dozer Bean.  After making great leaps and bounds in the health department over the last 6 months he started losing weight and looking less healthy than he had.  So a trip to the vet was in order.

On Friday Doc noticed some crackling when he breathed and he had lost 2 lbs.  She ordered a chest x-ray for today.  He has lost 2 more lbs. and they found, what appears to be, a heart tumor and nodules in his lungs.  The vet believes he doesn’t have a great deal of time left.
Dozer has been with us since June and in that time he has learned what love is.  Dozer appears to ha e been neglected for the majority of his life.  We found him in a shelter where he had been brought in as a “stray”, but his shoulder issues and arthritis appear to be that of a dog left in a pin or crate for the bulk of his life.  He had severe heart worms, arthritis, periodontal disease, unneutered, scar tissue in his ears, eye issues, vision issues, mostly deaf and was severely underweight.

In the months that he has been with us he has been a couch dog, made doggy friends, people friends, car buddy, snuggle bug at bed time.  He has been well loved plain and simple.  I am so sorry that he had a rough start in life, but I’m so glad we have been able to give him the love, care and attention that this sweet boys deserves.  We will keep you updated on his health and he will be getting extra spoiled until the end.

10/2/2017 Update:  Hi, I’m Dozer and I’m a big ol’ faker.  I like to walk so slow that everyone is waiting on me and act like it is hard for me to get around.  But when I know we are going somewhere in the car I’m a heel dog that nearly runs people down.  When everyone is looking I will act like i have a hard time climbing onto chairs, couches and other furniture, but when everyone is sleeping I push smaller pieces of furniture over so I can get in the bed with the people and the blankets.
I know where they keep the puppy food in the cabin and try to get into it at night when everyone is sleeping.  I love to roll around and knock things over and peek in the door if I feel like I’ve  been long enough.
I’d sure live a forever home that is patient and will let me sleep on the furniture.

9/25/2017 Update:  There has been a lot going on in Dozer’s lil world the last few weeks so there haven’t been many updates.  School started for his tiny humans so he has helped them get ready for school and likes to take them for drop off.

He still loves visiting  the country and met a puppy this weekend.  He did great.  Last weekend he met a sweet pup and made fast friends.  He likes bonfires and laying in the grass even if it does make him itchy.

He has met a few cats lately and is working on his kitty greeting.  He is a little too snappy most of the times and would probably do better without kitties.
He still loves cuddles and treats.  He is getting around better some days and slower on others.  He is a sweet boy who could use a forever home.

8/27/2017 Update:  Dozer is still a delight, except for his lack of potty manners.  We’ve been working hard to house train and he just isn’t interested.  Even when boarded at the vet for a few days he pottied whenever and where ever.  Alas, we will keep at it.

Dozer has completed his heartworm treatments and is feeling good.  He is getting stronger by the day.  He is still slower than the average, but getting faster.  He is more spry and agile than you’d expect of such a slow old man dog.  If he wants on the bed, he will find a way up there.

A little note from Dozer “Hi, I’m Dozer.  I enjoy rolling on my back in the floor, pushing furniture around in the process, long naps on the couch after pushing all the pillows off and laying in front of fans.  Chin scratches, belly rubs and snuggles are my jam.  Your bed is my bed, the couch is my bed, sorted laundry is my bed, your feet, lap, whole body…also my bed.  I like snacks.  My snacks, your snacks, the kids snacks, visiting critters snacks…MINE.  i am loveable, snuggable, petable.  I’m great in the car, good in the tub, I’ve never met a stranger and I’m great on a leash.”

7/25/2017 Update:  We’ve had a wild and crazy few weeks around here, but Dozer is doing great.  He is getting stronger and healthier by the day.  His scrawny backend is catching up to his hulkalicious front end.  He even jumped up to great his faster mom last week, twice.  Not our favorite doggy behavior, but the feat was impressive.
He is gaining weight, getting on a routine and getting his healthy doggy groove back.  He walks great on a leash, rides great in the car and loves everyone he meets.  He has met some new critters recently and does fine with them.
He enjoys treats, naps on the couch and short walks around the yard.  Dozer had his first shaved ice yesterday, water flavored of course.  He loves it.
Dozer had also become a big fan of Game of Thrones.  Well, a big fan of hanging out with his faster people while it’s on The tv

7/10/2017 Update:   Dozer had a great week.  He spent some rest and relaxation out in the country, went to his first bbq and just enjoyed some down time.

Dozer will have his second round of heart work treatment tomorrow (Tuesday).  Since his first treatment he has done great.  His energy has increased, his appetite has increased and seems to generally feel better all around.  He is still a slowpoke and struggles with mobility, but he gets around fine for his new retirement lifestyle.  No need to get anywhere fast.

You’ll notice he is wearing a diaper in a few of his pictures.  Dozer still isn’t house trained, though he is making some progress.  He is mostly deaf and has a hard time with verbal cues.  He wears a diaper in the house to prevent stinky, messy accidents.

He loves his foster kids very much and would spend all day playing video games and watching movies  with them if allowed.  He loves a good snuggle and asks for them regularly.

He has adapted to the routine of the house.  He knows when bedtime is and when wake up call is.  He crashes out at bedtime and won’t budge no matter where he is.

7/2/2017 Update:  Dozer has become quite the couch potato.  If he can be on the couch or bed snuggling with his foster people,  he is.  He seems to be getting more comfortable in his surroundings.  He no longer follows foster mom everywhere she goes.  He knows she will come back.

If she is gone too long he has to make sure she is ok, though.
He still isn’t a fan of baths, but a necessity for stinky rollers.  If it stinks he finds it and it’s all fun and games until he gets stuck in the bath.  His leash skills are improving and his potty training skills are getting better.
He seems to have a grass allergy or something similar.  Super red itchy feet and chin have appeared recently with trips out to the country.  We will be mentioning this at his next vet appointment.
He has more energy everyday and is loving life.  He has never met a stranger.

6/19/2017 Update:  Dozer has made himself right at home.  He loves the couch, lounging in the bed and rolling around in the floor.  Furniture has been rearranged to accommodate Dozer’s favorite hobby, leaning into furniture while rolling and wallering.

He isn’t big on toys, but he loves his treats and tooth brush chews.  He has started to get wiggly when he is happy.
Nothing big happened for Dozer this week.  He loves his people.  He is putting on weight and has made some progress on his house training.  He has more energy and better mobility everyday.  Sinuses seem to be clearing up as much as they can with his ears full of scar tissue.  Overall, another great week for Dozer.

6/12/2017 Update:  Dozer has an excellent week.  He got his first round of heartworm treatment on Monday and has been full of as much vim and vigor as his old bones can muster.  He’s been all smiles and snuggles since that treatment.  His dry eye is on the mend and his sinus infection seems to be clearing up.  The prednisone for his heartworm treatment seems to be helping reduce some inflammation all over, including the scar tissue in his ears.

He has made his first trip out to the country with his foster mom to visit the cabin.  He loves it out there.  He can really settle in for his doctor prescribed rest and relaxation next to a cozy fire.  He may be more of a country dog than a city pup.

He got his first bath since being neutered. He was unimpressed with the situation, but handled it like the laidback pooch that he is.  He absolutely loves his foster family. Still a constant shadow.  He loves laying on feet and laps.
He has been working on his house training skills.  He doesn’t see what the fuss about pottying outside is all about.  But he has assured his foster mom that he will keep at it.  All and all he has had one fabulous week living it up in the lap of puppy luxury.  Treats and cuddles, couches and beds, pettings and adventures, oh my!  Dozer is one sweet boy.

6/5/2017 Update:  When we picked up Dozer from the shelter last Thursday he was a groggy, stinky mess.  He was smelly, dirty and had obviously had a rough start in this world.  He boasted a slew of ailments, including a sinus infection, arthritis, dry eye and heart worms.  But I’m happy to report he has come up in the world and is becoming quite the looker.  His dry eye and sinuses are being treated with medication and clearing up nicely.  We’ve been keeping his face clean and coat brushed and this morning he was dropped off at the vet to start his heart worm treatments.  He will be a whole new pup in a couple of months.

“Bull” Dozer is a super sweet boy.  He loves to snuggle with his foster people and begs for attention.  He loves affection and wants to be as close as he can get to his foster mama.  He’s a constant shadow and looks for her if she gets out of view.
Dozer has never met a stranger.  Everyone is his friend, people and critters alike.  He is great with his tiny humans and the neighborhood cats that wander the yard.  He hasn’t barked at, nipped or chased anyone.  Dozer is super laid back and is happy to just go with the flow.
He discovered how comfy a couch can be and can be found there most of the time.  He doesn’t mind his crate and is a great car rider too.
Dozer is a joy and a delight.

6/3/2017 Update:   The verdict is in and it is one that truly reminds us of why rescues are here.  Dozer is a in need of A LOT of TLC and he more than likely would not have found that at the shelter without the work of all of our cherished bully lovers pulling together to help.  Dozer tested as a heavy positive for heartworms, has been victim to chronic ear infections causing a build up of inflamed tissue blocking his ear canal, he has chronic dry eye in his right eye which will require special drops for the rest of this guys days, has some arthritis in his elbows and has severe periodontal disease.  The very first thing that this tough guy needs to do is “doze” over those terrible heartworms.  He will start his treatment Monday.   The vet agreed that he is around 8 years old and although treatment is risky on any dog, being a little more mature increases the chance of complication.  He will be on antibiotics to help control his other ailments until his heartworm treatment is complete and he can have his mouth tended to.  Please send a little extra healing energy Dozer’s way while he undergoes the first round of treatment Monday morning.  This guy is so sweet and loving despite the laundry list of conditions.

6/2/2017 Update:  Please welcome Dozer to the NBBR.  Dozer is a 8 year old male English Bulldog that weighs 35 lbs.

Dozer has clearly had a very rough and tough life.  He was picked up as a stray and was placed up for adoption at a local shelter.  He had a lot of visitors, but no one adopted him .  He spent almost two weeks at the shelter before the Rescue was brought in to help give Dozer the retirement that he deserves!  See, he is a seasoned fellow.  The shelter had his age listed as 8 years old, but we will have a better idea of his age when he visits the vet on Saturday.  He has a very small build and currently weighs 35lbs and he could really use another 10-15lb.
Dozer’s day consisted of being neutered, vaccinated, and sprung out of puppy jail…lets just say, it was a doozy of a day!  He was still a little “groggy” during his photo shoot, but I can promise you that this guy is a looker.  His foster mom is already hard at work making sure that he is settling in and has all of the healthy grubb he can get!  You won’t recognize him the next time you see him!
Dozer does have some very noticeable issues that will be examined on Saturday at his vet visit.  He has some serious dental concerns and his ears are also in terrible shape. It is possible that he has compromised hearing due to the years of neglect.   It is pretty evident that he was housed outside and did not live the life of luxury.  We do not know exactly what was in Dozer’s past, but we do know that his future is bright.  He hasn’t let the bumpy road hold him back.
