3/22/2018 Update:

Gibson was ADOPTED!!!!  After almost ten months with the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family Gibson has found his forever family.

Gibson joined the NBBR family after a very bumpy stretch in his life journey.  Within a course of 6 month timeframe, Gibson found himself for sale on social media not once but TWICE.  The first time he was sold because his owners claimed he had difficulty getting along with other dogs.  When the second family got Gibson home after purchasing him they found that he had severe skin issues and a very infected leg injury.  While the family was in the process of treating Gibson for his skin and leg infection it was determined that Gibson was also Heartworm positive. This information was too much for the family so they decided that he needed to find a new family.

After a quick trip to the clinic Gibson joined his foster family. Gibson was nothing like he was described by his previous family. He wasn’t food aggressive, heck he wasn’t any kind of aggressive. He was a loving, goofy Bulldog that just wanted to be loved.  When Gibson first arrived at his foster home, he didn’t know his name. It was really apparent that he had not really played with many dogs before. (No worries, Gibson’s little foster brother made it is mission to teach Gibson how to play and how to live in a house with other dogs). Throughout this process Gibson attended many NBBR events and it was his personality that drew everyone to him, however when everyone heard of his arthritis, need for daily supplements, allergy medicines and other special needs, it all seemed too much. Then the interest stopped. The days turned into weeks and weeks into months.  During this entire time Gibson’s foster Dad kept thinking that Gibson might be a hard Bulldog to get adopted.  All the while Gibson had another plan.  He started working on Foster Dad’s heart strings, almost every night after dinner while watching television with his foster Dad, he would climb up on the couch and put his head in his foster Dad’s lap.  Gibson went from an independent little guy to one that wanted nothing more than to cuddle with his foster dad and foster brothers. Yes, you guessed it….. after 9.5 months of saying that Gibson was not going to be a foster failure, Gibson became a foster failure. So, even though Gibson now has a last name, his living arrangements won’t change at all.  All of his routines stay the same, playtime with his foster brothers, sunning himself on the patio when the weather allows and cuddle time after dinner. The only thing that has changed for Gibson is that he has the insurance that he will always have a family that loves him. Congratulation to Gibson and his entire family.

6/19/2017 Update: Gibson went to the vet for round two of his Heartworm treatment.  He did very well.  The treatment does take it out of him and he came home and immediately crashed on the couch.   In addition to his Heartworm treatment,  Gibson received two new medications for his skin infection.  The area on his chest doesn’t appear to be responding as well as hoped.  Gibson is now on a different antibiotic AND a topical foam that he gets every third day.  Gibson will be on crate rest for the next 30 days and then will return to the clinic to get retested to ensure he is free of the nasty Heartworms.  Gibson does have one “long term” issue. Due to either and injury or untreated infection, Gibson has arthritis in his front leg. This condition does not slow him down at all. Due to the arthritis, his foster Dad does shorten his walks but if it were up to Gibson,, he would gladly walk as much as possible. He is on and will need to continue to receive daily joint supplements. The supplements are a treat that he loves and are an over the counter item.

Gibson’s personality continues to be perfect.  A true southern gentleman.

6/11/2017 Update:  Gibson the complete package. He is your typical Bulldog in that he is very laid back and comical but he does have his energetic side (although those moment don’t last long.)  When given a choice, snoozing on the couch usually wins.

Gibson is a very smart little guy, he quickly picks up on new tricks. He has learned to sit and walk on a leash since coming to his foster home.  He has also learned to bolt out the front door when it opens.  Gibson has very good manners and has been a complete joy to have in the house.

6/4/2017 Update:  Same old, same old for Mr. Gibson. He is doing great with his Heartworm treatment and is getting ready for his second round of treatment.   Gibson has now become the wrestling co-champion of the house. While he can only play for a very short time before he is back to crate rest, he loves play time with his younger foster brother.

We did learn a new thing about Gibson this week. He does not like THUNDER.  Gibson is very protective and feels the need to bark when he hears thunder.  The good news is that once assured that all is ok, he does calm down, but it does take a few minutes and some “Gibson time” on the couch with his foster Dad.

5/28/2017 Update:  Another GREAT week for Gibson in his foster environment.  He has settled in nicely and is a full fledged member of the family.

Gibson’s skin is getting better but still causes him to itch significantly. He is on antibiotics for his skin condition and gets medicated baths every 3 – 4 days.

Once released from medical hold, Gibson will be ready for his forever home.  Gibson will be a great addition to ANY family.  He gets along well with other dogs, and children are his best friends. While he hasn’t been cat tested,  his foster dad doesn’t think that will an issue either.

5/21/2017 Update: Gibson has joined his foster home and is doing extremely well. He is a complete gentleman and gets along with EVERYONE.  Since Gibson is Heartworm positive, he will required to crate rest for the next 30 days.  After that 30 days he will  have another round of treatments, followed by another 30 days of crate rest.

When Gibson was surrendered it was mentioned that he was food aggressive, but his foster dad has not seen any aggressive behavior at all, food or otherwise. When not resting, Gibson enjoys playing with his foster brothers, chewing on his Benebone and resting on the couch.

5/12/2017 Update: Please welcome Gibson to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family.  Gibson is a 3 year old male English Bulldog weighing 52 lbs.

Gibson was recently for sale on Craigslist and our Bulldog loving friends immediately went into action to raise the funds to secure him and get him safely to rescue.  Gibson’s family bought him about 5 months ago from another person selling him online.  When they picked him up, he had a very red, bloody skin infection on his chest, he was limping and his leg was bandaged from what they were told was a recent “dog bite” after their other female dog bit him.  After getting home and removing the bandage, they discovered it was not a recent bite and it had become quite infected.  They took him to the local Banfield Hospital, got him up to date on all of his vaccinations and treated his leg infection.  At a recent vet appointment, they discovered he was heart worm positive.  At that point, his family decided they just didn’t have the means to care for Gibson and put an ad on Craigslist searching for a new family for him.

Today Gibson hitched a ride to Dallas with one of our volunteer families in Austin.  He was a very well behaved passenger and slept most of the way. Once in Dallas, he met another volunteer and made his way to Dr. H’s office.

Gibson will spend the weekend at the vet and start his heart worm treatment on Monday.  He will be treated for his skin infection and also have an x-ray on his leg to hopefully determine the cause of his limp.

Gibson appears to be a very laid back friendly Bulldog and we are looking forward to learning more about him once he joins his new foster family next week.
