12/27/2016 Update: Henri has been ADPOTPED!!! Please join us in congratulating Henri and his new FOREVER parents.

To say Henri had hit a “rough” patch in his young life is an understatement.  Prior to joining Rescue, Henri was found on Facebook. His owner wanted to trade him for anything that he could. When speaking with the Owner, it was determined Henri had already been traded once before and was up for trade again.

So, Henri joined NBBR and began his journey to find a new forever home. That journey had a bump or two as well. While at Henri’s initial foster family, he was a saint about 95% of the time. The other 5%, not so much. He would pick fights with his foster siblings, resource guard, growl and snap at  his foster Mom.  Due to this behavior, he went to live with a new foster family. His new foster family began to work with him on his behavior. Henri has come a long way and is truly a love bug. While looking for his forever family there were characteristics that would be necessary in order make a match. (Think needle in a rescue haystack).

After many months in Rescue, we can say we have found Henri’s needle.  Although there were many applicants that expressed interest in Henri, none were “the ones”. That all changed when his new parents stumbled upon our website and were instantly attracted to Henri’s rugged good looks. They could not believe he was still available for adoption. After many conversations, and learning all they could about Henri, it was time for an official meet and greet.  It was a connection right from the start.

Henri is now the Prince of the house. He hit the jackpot with two parents that will spoil him beyond rotten. He met his extended family yesterday and they all LOVED him. Currently, he is settling in with his family and all couldn’t be better. Henri is living proof that there is a family for every Rescue dog, sometimes that fit is found quickly and sometimes it takes a little effort.  In the end, Henri was able to find his happy ending. We thank his adoptive family for making that wish come true and wish everyone the very best.

10/17/2016:  Henri has been doing great. He spends most of his time hanging out with his foster brothers and chasing geckos in the backyard. The temperatures here in Texas have been perfect for enjoying time outside.

Henri also went to the local pumpkin patch and had his own photo shoot.

Henri LOVES to chew on bones and play with tennis balls and decided he needed something to play with at the pumpkin patch. Initially he discovered a gourd but that wasn’t much fun so he found a smaller pumpkin to play with. The pumpkin didn’t last very long against Henri.

Henri had a great time playing in the pumpkins and meeting all the people. And, at the end, he wanted to make sure everyone knew he had been there.

10/3/2016 Update: For those of you following Mr. Henri’s journey, approximately one month ago Henri was sent to Boot Camp. You see, at his previous foster mom’s house, Henri wasn’t always the best behaved.  Don’t get me wrong, about 95% of the time he was perfect BUT he did snap at his foster Mom and one occasion he made contact. So… after the last time it was decided that he get a little tough love at NBBR Boot Camp.

Flash forward one month later… Henri has been a perfect gentleman the last month. He has settled in well and gets along with all of his much larger English Bulldog foster brothers. Henri may be smaller but he can hold his own when it comes to playtime and claiming a spot on the couch.  There have been a couple of heated “discussions” over a chew toy or two, but nothing that isn’t to be expected when you have two very headstrong puppies that think they own everything they touch.

Henri loves to cuddle next to his foster parents. He has even become fond of draping himself OVER his foster dad on the couch. Henri summons his inner feline at times. He LOVES to chase anything from the squirrels and rabbits on his daily walk, the butterflies in the backyard and his all-time favorite are the Geckos on the patio. He could spend all day chasing those little lizards around. Fortunately for all the small animals in the neighborhood, Henri is not nearly quick enough to catch any of them.

Henri also enjoys a nice chew toy. He has claimed two for his very own.  One of his favorite is a Benebone that looks to be about the same size as he is.  Every time Henri’s foster dad returns to the house, he is greeted by Henri with a chew toy in his mouth.  When not gnawing on a bone under the dining room table, Henri can be found asleep under his foster dad’s desk.

After a month of intense Boot Camp training, it is apparent that Henri needs someone that has extra patience and love. Henri is starving for attention and wants nothing more than to be close to someone. While Henri gets along well with other dogs, he would be happy in a home where he can get all the attention as well.  Ideally, a family that can devote time to Henri and treat him like a prince would be best. A family that is willing to take him on walks and other adventures would be a HUGE plus for him as well. Does this sound like you? Do you have room for a big dog in a little body? If so, you could be the family Henri is searching for.

8/21/2016 Update: It’s me Henri, checking in….I had a lot of fun last week playing in all the mud with my foster brothers and sisters!  I don’t mind playing in the rain either!  My mom tried to keep us clean, but who knew the mud can be so much fun!!!  I didn’t even mind when she gave us all baths.  I even jumped in the tub when she told me too.

I loooove bubbles!!!!! As soon as my mom grabs the bottle, I follow her around and sit in front of her waiting for them to fly.  I try to jump as high as I can to eat every last one!  I love them so much that I even have Izzie, my bullmastiff sister, joining in on the fun!  My mommy laughs seeing us run around jumping all over chasing after bubbles.

Mom says that I’m making great progress and am gaining weight.  I’m gaining weight slowly, but look MUCH better than when I first arrived.  Sometimes I only want to eat once a day and mom says that’s okay.

7/31/2016 Update: Henri is fitting nicely with the crew.  He’s now discovered delight in daily wrestling with his foster sister Sophie.  She’s pretty tough even when the boys try to double team her.

My foster mom says that I’ve found my naughty pants, but I don’t know what she’s talking about.  I just keep kissing her nose and snorting in her face to make her laugh. She said that we’re going on a trip!  I’m a little nervous because I sometimes get anxious in the car, but I’m glad that I’ll have my foster brother and sisters with me.

7/10/2016 Update: Henri is continuing to come out of his shell. He is playing more with all of  his foster siblings and often comes just to sit or lie next to his foster mom. Henri is sleeping in the bed with his foster mom and the other Frenchies. His foster mom states that she has woken to find him on his back and his head on the other pillow fast asleep.

Henri is slowly gaining weight and his skin is getting better. He enjoys a bath but not getting his folds cleaned! (One fold is quite infected, but his foster mom is working on getting that cleared up with some  medication.)

7/3/2016 Update: I’ve only had Henri for about 24hrs, but he’s really a sweetheart.  He did great on the ride home and meeting my crew (2 Frenchies & 1 Bullmastiff).  You could tell that he has a history with larger dogs and wants to exert dominance (humping, marking only where Izzie goes), yet he wants to play with her.  Thankfully Izzie is very patient with Henri, gently corrects him, and has promised that she won’t eat Henri 😉.

He has worms which has left him underweight.  We’re working on getting Henri to eat and take his medication.  He is a fan of watermelon!  He also ate all of his dinner today when it was mixed with rice pudding.

His foster brother Beau has taken Henri under his wing and decided to show him the ropes.  Henri appears to be potty trained, crate trained, and has no issues with vacuums.  Henri slept on the bed with his foster mom and fellow Frenchies last night.  You could tell it was his first time because he didn’t know what to do and it took a while for him to understand it was okay to settle down and sleep.  His foster mom woke this morning surrounded by three snoring frenchies!

With a little time and healing, Henri will be ready for his forever home!

6/28/16 Update: Henri is a 2 yr. old French Bulldog that weighs 23lbs. Prior to joining NBBR Henri was known as Oggy. He was advertised on several Facebook sites for sale or trade. The owner had received Oggy in another trade situation. The owner has several other larger dogs and was worried that Oggy would be injured by one of the larger dogs. So, Oggy was put on the FB. As you can imagine, this infuriated many people who immediately began calling the owner.  For whatever reason, no one was able to get Oggy until our Director called and discussed the situation with his owner. Once the details were worked out, two of our volunteers immediately drove to pick him up.

Once safe in the rescue car, Oggy officially became Henri and he started his new life. However, he is very thin, his ribs and spine are noticeably visible. He has scabs./sores over his body. He has large raw areas where flies have bitten his ears. When Henri was picked up, he was covered in fleas and required flea medication and TWO baths to rid him of all the nasty little fleas. Henri will be going to the vet tomorrow to be neutered and to have a complete check-up. According to his previous owner Henri has not been to the vet in sometime so we are hopeful that internally he is in good shape.

Henri is a GREAT little dog with a very lovable personality. While at his temporary foster home he integrated himself very nicely. Henri gets along with all the other dogs in the house and has been holding his own in the Bulldog Wrestling Tournament against some much larger English competitors. He is potty trained, walks on a leash very well and loves to cuddle on the couch. Although he seems to love everyone, he does seem to be partial to men. After his trip to the vet tomorrow, Henri will join his permanent foster family so that he can begin gaining some weight and getting in 100% tip top shape to meet his new forever family Are you looking for a sweet little Frenchie to sweep you off your feet and fall in love ? If, so, you had better fill out an application quickly because this little guy won’t be single for long.
