10/14/2019 Update:

Hercules is gone. He crossed the rainbow bridge.  He has moved on to a better place.  No matter how I say it, Hercules is gone.  My heart is broken.

It is amazing how he stole my heart so completely in the short time I had the privilege to foster him.

How do I ever forget that adorable underbite with the two bottom teeth that made his smile complete?  How do I ever forget what a ham he could be when he was the center of attention?  Or what about his sweet little whine when he was reminding me he was by my side and available for a head scratch? Then there was his hilarious playfulness when he would nestle a toy between his front paws and dare you to play keep away with him.  Oh, and how he loved to play with his fur friends but could never run fast enough to keep up😂.

Hercules was such a love without a family to call his own.  All he wanted was to be loved and have companionship.  Hercules was one of the sweetest, funniest, most playful, and loving dogs I have ever met.

God, how I miss the sweet creature you put in my life.  Hercules is gone but never forgotten.  I miss you sweet baby.

9/8/2019 Update:

Go Cowboys!  I dog but I also BULL dog so I love football!  Cowboys make my hoomans cheer today, so I happy!   I take nap between cheers but I happy if hoomans happy.  Some new hoomans come over and they say I cute.  Ummmm, of course I cute!

Last week my hoomans leave for several nights, but when they come back I so happy!   Nice lady come while they gone and we go for walk every morning!  We see dog that live close and I ignore him first day but second day I need let him know I boss so I bark big!  I know other dog think I pretty scary.  Ha! He not know I big baby!   I not know how fight good, so I need make scary growl and bark so they not find out!

This week good.   I go to work.  Make me happy.   I like sleep while lady work.  People show up some time and I say how cute I am.   I like when people say “awwwww, he is adorable”.   I show “cute face” and lay down so they know I not full of self.

Lady learn how much I love soft toys.  They make me happy.  Other dogs want to take out white soft stuff and toy not soft anymore. 🥺. I try keep soft toys but they take and pull out white stuff. Lady say “no, no” to fur friends but they still do.  Friends still fun even if they take soft toys.   We play “keep away” and that fun!

I no have soft toys with “no,no” friends but beds stay soft!  It make me happy when I do circle on bed and then have soft bed in mouth.  I so happy when soft bed in mouth while I sleep!

Yaaaaawwwnnnn. Nap time. See soon I hope!

8/26/2019 Update:

Guess what??? Foster mom find my secret pouch this week.  It so FUNNY.  She say “what????, What??? WHAT???”.  I say “Yea, I have pouch.  I try tell you million times.  I rub tail on floor all time and you keep put medicine OVER TAIL, but problem IS TAIL POUCH.  It so SECRET!!  She scratching above tail and suddenly she see skin pull up and VOILA!  (You not know ENGLISH bulldog speak FRENCH???)  I have secret pouch AND many skills. 🤪So foster mom say my pouch “cork screw” and “SHE NEVER SEE ANYTHING LIKE IT”.   Pretty amazing huh???  So now she rub with special cloth and put all kind stuff that make it not itch no more.  She good hooman.  Tanks berry much.

I also get shower this week.  Not so happy when she start with water,  but then she scratch and rub all over and I decide I like berry much. Then she rub towel in ears and that wonderful!!!  I love attention after too when she tell me I so handsome and smells good. 😊. She give me kisses but I not lick face cause I know hoomans not like that too much.  She say I have good manners what ever that mean.    I LOVE kisses though so they can give me as many as they want!

Guess what??? I also get ball this week AND soft toy!!!!  I sooooo happy!  Other dogs chase me and try get ball but I berry good at “keep ball” game.  Soft toy my favorite for nap time.  I put in mouth and it make me sleep soooo good.  I still like go to work with lady.  Sometime she tell me “time go to house” but I want stay office.  I really like when she have big paper things and she put on floor.  I like sit on them and she laugh!  OH! And Guess what else?   We go walk!!!  I get smell green a lot.  We walk where sun behind green so not too hot.  We not go too long, but make me happy to explore.
We have nice men here this week. They so busy doing work, but they always nice and say hi.  I like when I get scratch or pat and nice words.
That all my news for now!  I hope I have fun things tell you about next time1

8/4/2019 Update:

Want to hang out?  I love friends and play time.  I have a ball I bet you can’t get from me!  Come on, just try!  Ha! Fooled ya!  Come on…try again!  I am closer….closer…. almost there…ha! Got you to reach again!  Oh, so now you are interested!   Uh oh! Now you are really trying!  I will tuck that ball under my big ole head and wrap my paws around it like a vice grip!

Hey! Let’s go for an adventure!  I love walking around smelling green stuff.  Some of it even tastes interesting. Here…try this one.  No? You don’t like tasting green stuff.  Fine. Be that way.  More for me!

Ok, time for a break.  Let’s just hang out and watch nature.  I am kind of a nature nerd.  There is just so much interesting stuff going on outside.

Hey! Do you have any soft toys or bones? Bones are awesome, but I will admit when I am really ready to settle in for a nap there is nothing better than a soft toy or edge of a dog bed to mouth on.  It just soothes me like no other!  So how do you relax.  I am open to hanging out with you.  Tv time? Reading? Napping? Oh yea!  I love all that too! What are the odds?  Seriously, we were made for each other!

I bet you like food too!  Me too! Wow! Match made in heaven for sure!  What about a good back scratch or rub??  Those are pure heaven aren’t they?

So, do you have any other fur friends?   I am not saying your company isn’t enough, but I am down with having some fur friends too.  You know, just for some good ole wrestle mania time.  I will have to work it out with them the way us dogs do, but as long as they are chill with me then I am in!

So, let’s do this thing!  I’m in!  Are you??

7/28/2019 Update:

Do’s and don’t do’s according to Hercules.

  1. I DO know how to use a dog door and how to ask to go outside.
  2. I DON’T do pee send poops in the house. I like “good boys” way more than “NO, NO bad boy”! I am no amateur!
  3. I DO know how to look really cute for pictures.
  4. I DON’T know how to be still for pictures. She just takes too long and I have so many cute poses to do!
  5. I DO love being with my people and my fur siblings.
  6. I DON’T have separation anxiety and can hang out taking naps when alone.
  7. I DO love my kennel and will go there during the day to nap and sleep in it at night.
  8. I DON’T stay up too late. If the people stay up late I will just put myself to bed.
  9. I DO love attention and especially a scatch above the tail or a belly rub.
  10. I DON’T always do good with young children (younger than about 8-10), but I have lived with them.  When they meet me at events they just worry me and so I growl a little to get some space.
  11. I DO love having fur friends. I love to play and wrestle with them.  We have play time after every meal!  I will even let them crawl all over me when we wrestle.  I don’t care if I am top dog as long as we are playing!  At first when I would wrestle with my new fur siblings, the male would get very aggressive in his play and I would try to put him in his place.  I never even left a mark on him even though he would manage to get a nip or two on me.  But man oh man did that make foster mom mad.  We would both get in BIG trouble.   Now when he starts to get too rough, foster mom gives us “the look” and a quick “hey” and we take it down a notch.  I just want to make her happy even if I have to take it on the chin sometimes.
  12. I DON’T meet dogs well at events.  It is just too stressful and I want to make sure I get all the hoomans attention.  If I can meet one dog at a time without a bunch of dogs around then I am cool with that.
  13. I DO whine when I want something. I don’t do it a lot.  I use it mainly when I want to go out or if I want attention.   My foster lady says it is the cutest little whine she has ever heard.  Like right now my fur siblings are playing on the bed and  I am doing my little whine because I want up there soooo bad!
  14. I don’t Bark (not much anyway. )
  15. I DO have a top speed of about 1 mile per hour.
  16. I DONT run.  Why would I? A brisk stroll is all that is really needed.
  17. I DO like a good afternoon nap.
  18. I don’t snore ….. ok.. Geesh.  I don’t snore loud.
  19. I DO love food! A good sniff of bologna and I will be putty in your hands.
  20. I DON’T miss meal time! Or snack time!
  21. I DO love how I feel after a bath and the scrubbing during the bath.
  22. I just DON’T like when they spray water on me. That isn’t my favorite.
  23. I DO love praise.  It makes me so happy when the hoomans tell me “good boy!”
  24. I DON’T do anything that gets me the evil eye 👁from the hoomans. If I hear “HEY!” Then I look right away to figure out what I am doing wrong.  I give them sad eyes and roll over to show my belly so they know I call “uncle”!
  25. I DO love outside time.  I love a stroll around to small and taste green stuff. I love sitting on the porch and watching nature.
  26. I DON’T like being left outside without my people.  It not that I would ever complain because I am a very chill dude, but it would stink to be left outside in the heat or cold.
  27. I DO love when people come see me at events to see how handsome I am and how much their attention means to me.
  28. I DO want a forever home!  “Insert sad puppy eyes here”. Pretty please?

7/22/2019 Update:

Important facts to know  about Hercules:

    1. If you drop anything edible, don’t even bother bending over to pick it up because Mr. Greased lightning will have it in his mouth before you can say “ops”!   It doesn’t matter if it is an apple. Or a chip.  It’s gone.  Look at the bright side.  You won’t have to worry about counting the 2 second rule!
    1. Hercules loves anything soft.  Soft toys, soft beds, soft sofas….he has this funny thing he does with the beds. He will drag one to wherever he decides it needs to be and will then grab it between his two paws and put himself into a trance mouthing the edge of the bed.  It looks like he is sucking a pacifier 😂
    1. Hercules loves to play.  He loves to play keep away.  He loves to play tug of war.  He loves to play wrestle.  He has so much fun playing with the other dogs and is endlessly patient.   He typically ends up on his back as they crawl, and jump all over him.  The young frenchie will grab his jowels in his mouth and pull so hard, but Hercules just smiles and keeps going. The only time Hercules will get a little grumpy with the other dogs is when a bone is involved, but even that is rare.
    1. Hercules loves exploring.  He will wander around our property smelling and tasting.  He is extremely curious about his environment.  When he goes to the bulldog events, his favorite thing is to explore the parking lot and all the smells there.  The when inside he wants to explore every isle.  Then he wants to go back out and explore the parking lot. We have some of the nicest evening strolls as we walk around and he gets to explore everything.  His exploring is more of an amble than a walk, so don’t be in a hurry 😂. Once he has had enough he heads back to the door to let me know he is done.
    1. Hercules loves meeting new people. He likes it so much that he doesn’t want to share the new people with any other dogs.  When someone is giving him attention at an event, or when we have visitors come to the house, he will chase off the other dogs if they get too close.  He never bites but will mock charge and growl and then go back for more attention.  This only shows up with new people for some reason.  I have been trying to break him of this habit, but it is still a work in progress.  In general the events stress him and he is not his usual self.   I hope he isn’t being judged for that because in a home environment he is a gentle giant.
    1. Hercules loves bed time.  If we don’t go to bed soon enough he will put himself to bed in his kennel or on one of the other dog beds in the bedroom.  In fact, he seems to like the bedroom in general for his naps too.
    1. Hercules loves going to work. He finally figured out the stairs this week and gets to go upstairs to work every day.   Of course now that he has figured that out he wants to charge out the door every time it opens…another work in progress.   He never runs away.    He just wants to go wherever you are going.
    1. Hercules thinks if he can’t see you then you can’t see him.  For instance: when playing “keep away” he will hide his head with the toy and thinks he is “hidden”. 😂😂😂
    1. Hercules really doesn’t snore.  Seriously! Ok, more like heavy breathing… but not bad at all!
    1. Hercules thinks he doesn’t like baths but once the scrubbing starts he melts.  Then the water starts again and he becomes one big bulldog muscle and starts trying to pull away.  But then towel time comes and he is a jello bulldog melting into you.    Drying out his ears is his favorite.   He is so chill by that time that he doesn’t even budge when I put his ear drops in.
  1. Ok, I was going to stop at top 10, but I have to brag on Hercules.   He gets eye drops twice a day and he is so good for me.  Sometimes he ducks his head and runs to shove his head in a corner, but for the most part he holds his head still for me.

That’s it for now!  This big loveable guy is just waiting for his forever home!

7/15/2019 Update:

Mr. H had a great week.  He is taking his mid-mid-late afternoon nap, so thought I would sneak in a message to all his fans.

Hercules is basically a big sweet heart who puts on a tough front.

This week he settled in even better with his fur siblings and I don’t think we had any scuffles this week. He appeared he was just sorting out his hierarchy in the pack, but seems to have it figured out.  We even had guests over and he didn’t try to run off any of the other dogs from getting attention.  He also hasn’t bothered the senior dog this week.  The last of the “disagreements” were when the smaller (about 30 lbs smaller) fur sibling got carried away with the wresting game and got aggressive with Hercules.  H didn’t put up with his attitude and gave it back.  Interestingly I noticed H uses his weight and chest when fighting and never left a mark on the other dog.  Poor H didn’t fare so well and had some minor punctures on his chin and lip.   They both got lectured as I was dabbing on the hydrogen peroxide.

So I find it very interesting that in spite of being bitten he didn’t bite.  He can sound ferocious though! Note: I had no issues pulling them a part and he has never been one bit aggressive with me.  I do monitor them when they wrestle to make sure the smaller dog doesn’t stir up trouble again.  They do still love to wrestle and H will literally lay on his back and let the other dogs climb all over him as they play.

This week H made the trek to the Bike Mart bulldog event.   He did well when he first got there, but it quickly stressed him and he decided he needed to charge other dogs. He was even charging his fur siblings that he normally gets along with. It is common for some of the bulldogs to get stressed at the events and Hercules is one of them.  The minute we left in the car he was back to his usual self.    I just feel bad he doesn’t show his best self at the events.

Side note: at the event he kept wanting to go outside.  We kept thinking he must need to potty.  We would take him out and he would want to explore and walk around but no potty happening.  I finally realized he just wanted to explore!  He does love smelling and tasting and checking out everything g around him. He is an explorer!

He has started the squeakiest little whine when he thinks he should be getting attention.  You can be sitting doing something else and all of a sudden you realize there is a slight noise.   Then you realized the little squeak is coming from the big dog next to you! Ha! Even in the morning if he thinks it is time to get up and you are in bed, you will start hearing this quiet little whine.  He can make you think he is so pathetic 😂.

This week H got comfortable enough that he has started sleeping in some of the other dog beds and not just in his kennel.   He does have an issue pulling stiffing from one of the beds that had a tear in it.   One day it looked looked like a stuffing explosion!

He still loves his soft toys.  He will walk around with them some and “protect” them under his chest.

H is a perfect house guest.  He is completely potty trained.   He is very responsive when told “no” and wants to please.   He still has his “bull” headed moments and will lay down or ignore you if he doesn’t want to go where you want him, but once I insist he gives in very easily considering he IS a bulldog 😂

Hercules won’t go up our stairs by the way.   He has gone up a few but then quickly goes back down.  Not sure why as he seems physically capable.  They are wood stairs so I almost wonder if he doesn’t feel comfortable with having no “grip.

7/7/2019 Update:

Happy 4th!  I had a great week with the new hoomans! It was so great to be in a house again. The hoomans at the vets office were really nice but there is nothing like having a house to walk around and access to all the green stuff outside.  Pretty sweet.

So this was a week of training….me training the hoomans of course and the other fur friends.  The hoomans would get pretty mean voices when I was trying to train the other fur friends but we worked it out pretty quick.  There is just one older fur sibling that I just can’t figure out.  He is so old he doesn’t really hang with the rest of the pack, so I thought he needed to be put in his place.  Boy does that get me in trouble.  The mean voices really show up then and I get put in “time out” laying down. I know when I am beat so I lay very still and wait for the good voice.  I am doing better and he is doing better at avoiding me.

I will say I am having a ball with the other two fur friends.   I was pretty cautious at first because you just never know what’s behind a furry face. But they are cool! The young one really keeps me on my paws.   We play wrestle, tug of war, keep away, and chase.   I am really good at wrestle and tug of war and keep away, but chase is my weakness.   I pretty much run in small circles while they run circles around me.

The hooman lady laughs so hard when I play keep away.  She thinks it’s funny when I circle my paws around the toy and lay my head over it.  They she backs off and I raise my head… but watch out! Here she comes! Wrap it up and lay my head over it again!  I could play that all day!  I even got a new soft toy this week and I really made sure I held on to that!

I really like that I have my own special place here that hoomans call a “crate”.  That’s pretty much where I hang out during the day.  I am a very experienced napper, but I am always ready for some play when she calls me.

Have I told you how much I love checking things outside? There is so much to smell and taste.  It is pretty hot right now but I enjoy laying on the back porch in the evening with the hoomans.  They play some nice music and the fur pack gets to hang out and play.   In between hanging out I will make rounds and check out all the smells.  Sometimes during the day the lady will let me in the front yard!  There is even more to check out there.   I always stay close and come pretty quickly when she calls.  She says I am such s good boy and that makes me happy.

So the lady says I need to tell you important things like I don’t potty in the house, I listen very well (for a bulldog), and I don’t snore too bad (for a bull dog), I LOVE people (all sides, shapes, ages) and equally love attention from them all.  Well, she says I also have to tell you I get jealous of other dogs when we have visitors.  I want ALL the attention, what can I say?  Now that I know the new fur friends better I will let them get some of the attention from visitors, but seriously I am so cute how can anyone resist!  I am pretty chill about sharing attention when only the hoomans that live with me are here, but when new people show up I want to be top dog!

What’s that??? Oh! Gotta go! It’s dinner time and I don’t miss meal time!  I even get treats here after dinner and I get to show her how good I know how to sit! Later!

6/30/2019 Update:

“A day in the life of Hercules”

Sooooo, yesterday awesome day!  New hoooman lady I never see before pick me up.  Kind of fun and scary at the same time.  Where I go this time???  I love car rides so pretty happy she take me in car right away.  She give me pets and talk nice.

THEN I meet new fur friends.  I not know if they friendly, so I take it slow. They seems nice.  We all go on walk. So much green to smell and taste! I love green.  New friends nice.

Walk over but then I explore green ground by house.  Lots of awesome smells!  I add my smells so everyone know I live here now.

It get hot so we go in cool house.   One new fur friend kind of not sure if I allowed in her house so she try to block me.  Lady say “no” and fur friend let me by.   I want to show her I no push over so I mock charge her a little.  Lady say BIG “NOOO” so I stop right away and do “sad eye” trick.  So now that all settled I check house all out room by room. Then check each room again. And again.  I think I should add my smell here too, but I not even have time to get my leg up and “NO” she say.  Bummer.  Just wanted to know if same rules here.  Oh well, lots of yard for my smells so that ok.

Then lady say “you smell like a dog!” Ummm, she..not ..know ..I ..dog???  That mean I get to eat at table with hooomans???? Then I find out ….that mean I need bath…..I try “lay down” trick so she no get me to water but she so pushy I finally give in.  Geeesh.  But bath actually feel good and I get back scatch, and leg scratch, and belly rub…..aahhhhhhh.  Then she take big fluffy thing and rub me all over and push in ears and rub so nice and hard. I close eyes…..ahhhh. She say I smell very handsome now!

Second new fur friend very bouncy.  I think maybe I show him I strong dog so I mock charge him too. Lady say BIG “NO” again so I stop right away.   Second Friend not fooled and still keep telling me he want play.  I not sure…. but tempting.  I watch him. I look at him.  I think he maybe fun.  He bounce at me.  I bounce back!  Wrestle time!  He and other friend on couch so I jump in middle and we roll, and pounce, and shake heads.  Fun!!!

So we all tired and just hang out with naps and smelling new house.  I find out lady open door for me if I stand by clear wall.  I go outside to pee so lady be happy with me.

Then dinner time!  I get food and treats she wraps around something hard but I no care if she call it medicine because it taste good!  Then she put stuff in my eyes. I try ducking and covering eyes with paws but she still so pushy I give in.  I still squint my eyes but she pull open anyway. She even more stubborn than me!  Then the wet cloths come out that every Hooman always like to use on my nose wrinkles and tail.  I like it on tail but I squint hard when she do nose.  It make her laugh and she say my face funny!   I get nice pats and “good boy” when she done.

I like hoomans so I follow lady everywhere she go.  She say I like shadow.  After a while a man hooman show up and he nice too.  He call me “big fella”.  I now try follow both hoomans.

Then even more new people show up.  All hoomans stand together and talk hooman words to each other.  They all say I cute!  I LOVE humans say I cute and talk sweet voice.   Then new fur friends come close and hoomans talk nice to them too.  I not like that.  They should only notice me!  I know what to do about that! CHARGE!   💥☄️🔨❗️I remove competition!.  …..ops…BAD MOVE…. I get BIG “NO”!! Then I get put in time out on my side.   I try a few more times to make sure they mean it but same results…TIME OUT.   Don’t they know I not want hurt friends? I only want them to back off so I get all attention?   I bulldog so I pretty stubborn but time outs wearing me down.   Then hoomans not stand together so we all spread out and I not need to stay center of attention. My fur friends forgive me and we chill together.

Long day, so then go to crate to sleep. I whine a couple times to lady when she on bed but too tired to keep that up and I sleep all night.   Lady say “good morning handsome”. That make me happy.  She also say she surprised I no snore.

Then, TIME TO EAT! Me and fur friends all follow her to food room.  I get food, treats with medicine, and she also do eye drops and nose wipes, and nice stuff on my itchy tail area.  I eat my food while fur friends eat theirs. We all go to back porch.  It nice outside!  I get to smell all green stuff again!

I find yellow ball on porch and push around. Second friend likes that so he start play again! He bounce and run and I try to catch him.  He so fast but I bulldog so I no catch.  I try to get him when he run by!   He fun!

Lady now tapping away on big pad thing and keeps laughing to herself. Wonder what so funny?

Time for me and fur friends to 😴

Signing off until next update!

5/6/2019 Update:

Hercules has had another good week. He and the other dog in the home are spending more and more time around each other without any issues. We have gone on short walks in the neighborhood. He is still good at walking on a leash. Occasionally he wants to walk up to a neighbor’s door but he is fairly easy to re-direct when that happens. He is very sweet about getting up on the couch and sitting next to me at night and either laying his head near me or chewing on a blanket near me. These are some of the pictures of him chewing on his blankets. He is a sweet dog.

4/29/2019 Update:

Nothing very exciting to report about Hercules this week. He has had another good week just hanging out at home, chewing on blankets and toys, playing and going on short walks in the neighborhood. He has has some gunk in his eye so we will try some Benadryl. There has been a lot of pollen this Spring. Hopefully that will clear it up for him.

4/22/2019 Update:

Hercules had a good week leading up to Easter today. He went to the Easter event at Bitter Sisters yesterday and was able to hang out around other dogs for about an hour or so. He seemed to enjoy it today when guests came over to our house for lunch. He seemed excited and jumped into one teenage girl’s lap after lunch. Everyone got a good laugh about that. Here are some pictures of Hercules wanting his belly scratched and sitting with me on the couch at night. I think he’s very cute and sweet.

4/15/2019 Update:

Nothing much has changed with Hercules this past week. He got a bath today. He does fairly well taking a bath. He doesn’t seem to love it but he doesn’t resist it too much. He continues to do well with having his face and tail cleaned and with getting his eye drops. He walks well on a leash. He likes chewing on his toys and blankets. He is a little bit of a towel thief. I have found dish towels from the kitchen in his bed at times. We have a ritual where we sit together on the couch at night. I have been giving him a few treats.  He is a sweet dog.

4/8/2019 Update:

Hercules continues to enjoy relaxing at home and playing with his toys. He got a new bunny since Easter is around the corner and he’s enjoyed chewing on it this weekend. As a first time foster I’ve learned that it may take a few months for the dogs in the home to adjust to each other. My concept of a “slow introduction” has changed. Initially I think I expected too much, too quickly. Now I would say it pays to be patient and wait to see what will happen. Hercules and the other dog in my home are able to be around each other now without Hercules displaying any dominant behavior towards her. And Hercules has always been calm around me and other adults he meets in my home. Recently he’s started putting his paw on my leg when I’m working on the computer to get my attention. It’s very cute.

3/31/2019 Update:

Nothing significant has changed with Hercules recently. He continues to hang out, play with his toys, chew on his blankets and guard the house. I saw that he liked to look out the window at birds at his other foster home. So I open the front door for him here so he can look out at stuff. He seems to enjoy that. He’s a good guard dog.

3/25/2019 Update:

Hercules has just been hanging out and playing with his toys this past week. He got another new toy this weekend and he was very excited about it. We have a ritual at night now of sitting on the couch together and he either chews on one of his toys or lays his head near me and sleeps. It’s one of my favorite times with Hercules. He is such a great dog!

3/18/2019 Update:

Hercules spent a few days this past week at the vet’s office while we were on vacation. He was so excited to be home again today. He was running and playing with his toys like a puppy at home! He has had some slightly aggressive behavior towards other dogs recently, like other dogs in the vet’s office earlier this week. He growls and barks at other dogs at times. However, he seems to have adjusted to the other dog in our home at this point. So he may just need some extra time to be comfortable around other dogs. Overall, Hercules is a calm, sweet dog.

3/10/2019 Update: Hercules has been hanging out in his new foster home, relaxing, playing with his toys, chewing on his blankets and getting some belly scratches, as usual. He and the other dog in the home have been around each other occasionally with no dominant behavior displayed by Hercules. He has growled at some other dogs he has seen in the neighborhood, etc. I understand Hercules has been in another foster home with dogs in the past without any problems. Maybe the move from there to a new home has him somewhat unsettled. He is always very sweet with me. In the evenings he usually joins me on the couch and likes to rest his head near me. It’s very endearing. He is a great dog who deserves a great home!

3/3/2019 Update: Hercules has settled in fairly well at his new foster home. He has been around the other dog in my home without any dominant behavior towards her recently. He’s playful with his toys. He likes to chew on blankets and when he sees towels he wants to pull and chew on those also. He loves having his belly scratched. Overall he continues to do well. He’s a sweet dog.

2/25/2019 Update: Hercules has had an opportunity this week to interact with a young girl who has been visiting. She and Hercules have played together a little bit and Hercules even went on a walk with her around the neighborhood this weekend. Hercules is so good at walking on a leash. He walks right beside you and doesn’t pull on the leash. I think he must have had some training or a lot of practice at walking on a leash in the past. Hercules very friendly with all the people he meets, including this young girl. He does seem to get his fur a little ruffled by other dogs at times, but we will continue to work on this. He still loves his toys, his blankets and having his belly scratched.

2/18/2019 Update:  It’s been about a month since Hercules joined his new foster home and he has continued to settle in and relax more. This week he got a new chew toy that functions like a toothbrush. He really seemed to like it and hopefully it will help clean his teeth. He has two little bottom teeth that are very cute. We’ve continued to work on sit and stay. Hercules is a smart dog and is very motivated by treats. He seems to learn quickly. We went to the bulldog event at Rahr & Sons yesterday and Hercules seemed to enjoy meeting all the people there but seemed a little overwhelmed by all the dogs. We’ll continue to work on dog socialization.

2/11/2019 Update:  It’s been a little over three weeks since Hercules joined his new foster home. He continues to settle in and relax more and more. He is a calm, mature dog but he still gets excited about new toys. He got a new soft, stuffed toy this weekend and was very excited to play with it. And he’s smart and quickly figured out how to “unlock” a plastic puzzle toy and get the treats out of it. He rarely barks but does notice unusual noises and will briefly bark if he hears an unusual noise at night. I think he is a good “guard” dog at night. We’ve continued to work on sitting and staying in his bed and he does those well. Hercules is a great dog!

2/3/2019 Update:  It’s been a little more than two weeks since Hercules joined his new foster home and he’s really beginning to relax and settle in more now. The limited ingredient dog food seems to be helping and he isn’t scratching much now. He still likes to have his belly scratched and he also likes to be brushed with a soft brush. His hair is so white that it almost sparkles in some places. He’s observant and curious and he likes to look in open drawers and cabinets. And he notices small changes around the house, like a new book on the bookshelf. He seems very curious about new noises also, like the sound of the printer as it’s printing things. He’s a smart dog and quickly learned some tricks after only a few sessions with a professional trainer. Now Hercules will sit and stay on his bed when he’s asked to do this. And he hasn’t interacted with the other dog in the home in a dominant way since we’ve been working with the trainer. He’s a very sweet dog and he wants to please and earn treats. And he still loves playing with his toys!

1/27/2019 Update:  Hercules has continued to settle into his new foster home this week. He seems more relaxed. He’s been scratching some so he’s switching to a limited ingredient dog food to see if that will help. He gets drops in his eyes twice a day and doesn’t have problems with that. And he has no issues with having his face and tail cleaned. He likes to lay on the couch next to me and get his belly scratched. And he loves chewing on his toys and his blankets. He’s been around the other dog in the home at times with no issues. Occasionally he displays some dominant behavior towards her so we’re all going to work with a professional trainer for a few sessions to see if we can all learn some new tricks. Overall Hercules is adjusting to his new environment and is a very sweet dog.

1/20/2019 Update:

Hercules has been settling into his new foster home this weekend. He lives up to his name as a big, strong bulldog. He likes to play with his toys, get belly scratches and sleep on the couch with his blankets. He has no potty training issues and he learned to use the doggie door quickly. He’s been on a few short walks in the neighborhood this weekend and has been good at walking on a leash and friendly towards the people he meets. He doesn’t chew on anything in the house other than his toys and his blankets. He’s still figuring things out in the new home and has displayed some dominant behavior towards the other dog in the home, but we will work on that. Overall Hercules is a very handsome, sweet bulldog.

8/20/2018 Update:

Hello Hello!!! Hercules here to give you another update on what’s going on in my life! Summer has all but come to an end and I had so much fun. The little people were always home, which means I had someone to play with all day every day! Those kids are rough but that’s ok, I can handle myself. They make me feel a couple years younger, actually think I may have dropped a few pounds chasing them around, which is great because I needed to work on my summer bod! Anyways I’m still here waiting for my forever home. I know the perfect one is out there, and I can’t wait to be paired up with whoever it may be. Maybe they will have kids too!

Until next time guys,
Hercules

7/5/2018 Update:

Hercs. here. It’s been a very busy week/summer for me and my foster family. From sleep overs to vacations and birthday parties. The upside to all this I’ve been getting so much love from a lot of little kids. I do really good with kids but when feeding me treats you have to be careful I don’t get your finger as I’m very quick when it comes to taking a treat… I don’t have any issues with having accidents in the house however don’t leave a stuffed toy on the floor because I will have it for dinner, lol. I Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th, I know I did. Until next week! In the mean time I’ll be awaiting my forever family. Maybe that’s you!

❤Hercules🐶

6/11/2018 Update:

Hercs. here.

After a week I’m finally back home with my foster family. I spent the week with Dr. H, and the ladies there took real good care of me while my foster family was on vacation.
I got a clean bill of health, a nice bath and my nails trimmed. I guess you can say I was on a little spa vacation myself.
Im happy to be home. The moment I walked into the house I ran in circles and straight to the window. Boy I missed bird watching. By watching I mean bird patrol, lol!
Until next time, I’ll be here relaxing on my nice comfortable couch awaiting my forever home.

5/28/2018 Update:

Hercs. here,

I’m still doing really well and enjoying my foster family. Now that it’s hot outside my foster mom only gives me a 1-2 minute window. I take advantage of that window by running a full circle around the yard, then right back inside. My foster minis say that I’m super fun to play with.
I have to say I’m spoiled rotten. I spend my day eating, drinking water and hanging on this big comfy thing, they call a COUCH.
Until next time. I’ll be here awaiting my forever family.

-Hercules

5/9/2018 Update:

Hercs. here. I’ve been having such an incredible time with my foster family!
My foster mom says I have no sense of personal space but who needs that anyways! Sure I use people as a chair, and yes I feel my nose belongs on someone’s face at all times, but can you blame me for being the most loving bulldog ever?
I’m still patiently awaiting my forever home.
Until then I’ll be snuggling and loving my foster humans…..
I can’t wait to do this with my forever humans.

Paw signed,
Hercules 🐾

4/9/2018 Update:  Hercs. here.
I’ve been hanging with my foster family, patiently awaiting my forever home. I’ve picked up a few cat habits while being here. My foster cat brothers enjoy bird watching from the window. I always thought they were some weirdos but now I see the enjoyment, lol. I love when my foster mom opens the blinds. I bird watch, sun bathe and sometimes bark at people when passing by 🤣🤣🤣😎. You should try it sometime, it’s a blast! Not much else going on. Hope to meet one of you guys soon. I’ll be waiting!!! 🐶

3/18/2018 Update:

Hercs. here.
It’s Friday, only my most favorite day EVER!
Hope you have some time on your hands, so I can fill you in.

First my foster mom likes to give me bird baths 🛀 to hold me over until my bath days. They’re my absolute fav. She gets a hand towel, dips it in soap water and cleans my fur.
Honestly it feels like I’m at a dog spa!
Don’t let this fool you!
I’m not high maintenance….

I also have my play dates on Friday with my dog friends up the road. Yep, that’s right.
I’m not sure but I’m pretty sure I’m a big deal around here……

To end our Friday’s we take a trip to Culver’s and I get a dog pop. Yes that’s a thing! 🍦 😍

Anyways nothing new really going on here. Still patiently waiting for my forever home. Did I ever tell you I love kids? Well I do and with spring break here and the littles gone, I sure am missing them. Hope to meet you soon and change both our lives forever….. 🐶

3/11/2018 Update:

Hercs. here.
My foster mom has been down with the flu and I’ve been watching her very closely. Every now and then I’ll give her some quick kisses just to wake her and show her I’m still here. I haven’t moved a muscle off this couch unless she moves. I’ve also been keeping an eye on the mini humans. I don’t mean to toot my own horn but I’m a good nurse/baby sitter…… toot toot

XOXO Hercules

2/27/2018 Update:  Hercs. here. I’m enjoying this wonderful Sunday but boy do these mini humans need to go back to school. “They’re Crazy” 😂 and they say I’m the animal……

2/20/2018 Update:

Hey Folks,

Hercules here and i just wanted to give you guys a quick update on whats been going on in my life! So for starters I’m patiently waiting for my forever home, I know its out there and the right one will come along. In the meantime I’m having the best time with my foster family. They have kids!!!! And man do i love to play with them, they can be a little rough sometimes and thats saying something cause I’m no small pup but I can handle it lol. I’m a fan of cats but I don’t think they’re a fan of mine. I like to “playfully” chase them, but I’m not rough with them. I think they’re just a little high maintenance, lol. Oh well. My fosters used to have a puppy named Romo but he is no puppy any longer. He’s bigger than me! Which is perfect because I always wanted a little brother…well i guess big brother now. Anyways just wanted to let you guys know that I’m here and I’m waiting. I feel good, smell good, and I know I look good. So take a chance and come see me, I promise you won’t be disappointed. I’m a big ball of love

Bye for now,
Hercules

1/21/2017 Update:  Hercs. here.
Sunday’s are my absolute favorite. My foster human and I get to relax all day and eat snacks.  She watches her shows while I play with my soft toys. Soft toys are my very favorite but I’m not sure if the feeling is mutual. I do tend to tear them about in about 3-5 minutes. I’m looking to beat my record here soon and hopefully get that down to about 2 minutes….. In the mean time I’ll be here in my fosters home practicing until I can practice in my forever home!!! Love Hercules…..

1/14/2018 Update: Hercs here.
Went to the vet a couple of weeks ago because of my dry eyes and things are finally starting to turn around. My eyes are better than ever and my foster mom no longer has to wake up in the morning and clean my crusty eyes….. Ewwww! I’ve been hanging out on my cool chair giving orders and supervising. No one is aloud on my chair unless they want to cram in next to me! I hate to admit it but I run this house. Personally I think my foster mom loves me more than her own fur babies. That’s just my opinion. In the mean time I’ll sit in my chair and await my forever family! 😉

12/31/2017 Update:  Hercs. here. Today I had a checkup and after being loved by everyone in the building I was finally able to work my way to the back. Found out that I have an infection in my eyes but nothing that some eye drops, steroids and antibiotics can’t help. I mean they don’t call me “Hercules” for nothing. In the mean time I’m enjoying my foster family and those pesky little humans they call children….. 😉 I hope you had a Merry Christmas and cheers to a Happy New Year…..

12/24/2017 Update:

Hercs. Here I don’t know about you but I’m having the time of my life. There’s this wooden thing that has claws at the end of it and my fosters use it on me as a back scratcher. Must be a human thing…. I’m just glad I get to test it out everyday. I also have a chair of my own that my foster mom “willingly gave to me”. Who needs a bed when you can have a chair made for a king.

Until next time.
Merry Christmas
-Hercs. 😎

11/12/2017 Update:  Hercules here. Waiting patiently for my new forever home. I’m healthy and happy, my foster family is a lot of fun. They have kids that I love to play with. When I’m not having a good time with them I’m playing with my foster fur brothers Romo & Flash. We run around together and wrestle all in good fun. That’s it for now, hope to meet whoever you are soon!
10/15/2017 Update:  Hercules here. It’s been a long busy week but I’ve been my foster mom’s road dog…. Literally! I have to say I’m good company. I love looking out the window during our car rides. A couple of weeks ago I had left to what I thought would be my forever home but after 3 days I came back home to my foster parents and thank goodness bc I missed all the belly rubs from my human foster sisters. I’m still awaiting my forever home but until then I’ll thoroughly enjoy my time here with my fosters.
10/6/2017 Update: No matter how hard we screen applicants, sometimes the perfect “forever” home doesn’t turn out that way. With that said, Hercules in back with his foster family. To say that he was excited to be back was an understatement. So, on his first weekend back he is getting reacquainted with his 4 human foster sisters and the other furry foster siblings.

9/4/2017 Update: Hercules is doing so well. He’s gone 2.5 weeks without any accidents. Go him! He’s been enjoying his foster brothers so much. They get along very well but of course when feeding them they must be separated. Hercules is a very quiet kind of a guy but as soon as his foster brothers decides it’s time to play, he’s ready!
Hercules can snack and snack and snack some more so he must be limited when it comes to food.
His skin allergies comes and goes. So he can have a pink patches on his body and sometimes he has none. We give him medicated baths every 2 to 3 weeks and still have some spray we use on his fur but it doesn’t seem to bother him.
P.s. This guy is quite the snoozer and be warned he does snore sometimes!

8/14/2017 Update:  Hercules is such a great pup and he is so relaxed. He’d rather lay around the house than run around the house. Don’t get me wrong, he enjoys playing with his benebones and his ropes. He gets along great with other dogs and cats. He’s a big guy but a big softy. His favorite part of the day is when the kiddos come home. He enjoys all the attention. After that it’s back on the couch for him.

7/28/2017 Update:  Hercules here. Today I had my stitches removed and I’m all good to go.
I’ve been having a super cool buddy to keep me on my paws, her name is Olivia and she’s a super rad girl.
We’re definitely opposites when it comes to energy level but that’s what makes her so perfect. I’m a super mellow kind of a guy and she has a huge peppy personality. But boy she’s a catch. She’s a huge sweetie and has the looks for it!

7/25/2017 Update: Hercules checking in:
My foster family says I’m spoiled rotten but I don’t see it. I mean I like to sprawl out on the couch and on my foster moms bed and recently made her comforter my own personal bed. Other then that I don’t see where “spoiled rotten” comes in the picture.

Saturday I get my stitches removed and will finally be ready for my furever home. Please note that I am crazy about soft toys, soft beds and couches and love snacks. That’s important! I also like having other fur friends.

I’ve been wearing these belly bands around the house to help with marking and I’m slowly getting better about marking the house.

Today I’m going to have my own special guest her name is Olivia you may know her! We will try not to get into to much trouble….

7/21/2017 Update:  Look who is finally feeling better and becoming active….. This guy!!! We found Hercules isn’t a big fan of hard toys he prefers soft toys. We’re still working with him on not marking but he’s slowly getting better. His skin still looks bad hopefully this medicine will clear him up soon.

7/19/2017 Update:  Today makes 4 days that we’ve had Hercules. Poor guy came home from the vet with 2 bags full of meds. I can tell he is finally starting to settle in and get comfortable. Hercules gets along very well with his foster brothers both dogs and cats. Overall he’s a chill kind of a guy. Hercules likes to sit and watch tv with us and make his way onto the couch. His name is very fitting as he is a strong, big tough guy. However he is still a big softy. He enjoys being loved on and having his tummy rubbed. We noticed the first couple of days that he likes to mark his territory so we ordered a belly band and we are currently working with him on this. Today will be his second day wearing his belly band and he hates it. He refuses to walk around with it on although he is capable. Silly guy!

7/16/2017 Update:  Please join us in welcoming Hercules to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Hercules is a 5 year old male English Bulldog that weighs 62 lbs.

Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!!!!! joins the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family as an owner surrender. His previous family is downsizing to a smaller home and decided Hercules would not fit.  When he arrived Hercules had eye, skin and ear infections. In addition to his skin infections, it appeared that he also had allergy related issues as well. As always, Hercules’ first stop was at the clinic to determine what would be needed to get him back to a completely healthy Bulldog. It was confirmed he did have active eye, ear and skin infections and Hercules was started on several antibiotics and an antifungal for his skin.  In addition to the medication, he was also started on a quality limited ingredient food to address his allergies.

Hercules has the typical happy go lucky Bulldog personality  He loves humans of all sizes and appears to get along with other dogs as well.  He does have one habit that his foster family is working to correct. Hercules thinks it is appropriate to “mark” items so everyone knows they are his.  Hercules is a very smart boy and wants to please his humans so we are sure his manners will be in tip top shape in no time.  Currently he is settling in with his foster family which consists of several human and fur siblings.  Stay tuned as we learn more about this laid back guy.
