Mary

Mary

Breed: English Bulldog

Sex: Female

Age: 10 yrs. old

Weight: 45 lbs.

3/15/2019 Update:

Miss Mary passed on March 12th in her sleep, in her favorite spot. She will be greatly missed. She was very affectionate…gave her kisses freely and told you when she wanted a hug by placing her cheek on yours. She was a sweet girl that enjoyed being pampered. Her favorite things were ultra soft blankets, pawdicures, meeting new people, car rides, slow walks, treats, and being beside her human. Miss Mary left a huge void. Remember to always adopt, don’t shop. You’ll be greatly rewarded.

3/4/2019 Update:

Miss Mary is not a fan of these cold days but she’s creative…she snuck under the blanket used on the couch to keep her hair off. She’s a very smart girl and knows how to get what she wants!

Mary does not do well with other dogs but is great with humans of all sizes. She’s a cuddler and always wants to be touching you. She loves having her ears rubbed and giving/getting kisses.

Mary is low maintenance…eye drops twice a day and Benadryl twice a day….other than that, all she needs is love!!

2/25/2019 Update: This little girl turned 10 this week! She celebrated all week with shopping trips, a day at the doggie spa, lots of time in the sunshine, and a special trip to DQ. She loves these nicer temps and gets excited as a puppy when her harness comes out! She’s an explorer, and when the weathers right, she will check out every inch of her surroundings. She’s so sweet and super friendly. Every one she meets gets greeted with an ankle kiss!

2/11/2019 Update:

Miss Mary hates the cold so having her soft warm blankets in every room is a requirement! She’s not a fan of the fireplace though…all that popping and crackling spooks her.
She’s kept her walks to the bare minimum lately but today she wanted the sunshine so she got out for a couple walks, a few hours at the spa, and wrapped up her day with a pupachino at Starbucks. This is her “leave me alone human…it’s naptime” face. I won’t see her again until it’s treat time. 😊

This sweet girl requires so little but gives so much. She’s a cuddler, demands hugs, and always shows her appreciation with lots of kisses!

1/14/2019 Update:  Miss Mary had an uneventful week. She enjoyed most of it figuring out her favorite place to snooze on the sectional and she’s decided she’s not a fan of the fireplace. She will check it out when there’s no fire burning, but if you build her a fire she runs for the comfort of her bed! She’s a huge fan of super soft blankets and prefers to be buried in them even though she gets too hot. Ceiling fans are a must. This little lady loves being comfortable and I don’t think I’ve ever met a dog that does it better! She’s quite the couch potato but has the sweetest personality and has earned her nick name “diva”. ❤️

1/2/2019 Update:  Miss Mary said goodbye to 2018 the same way she said hello to 2019….snuggled up in her favorite blankets! She will be 10 soon, but when she’s not cuddling her babies or snoozing the day away, she really acts much younger. She will walk as long as you let her and still gets excited every time the harness comes out. You can still see the puppy in her! She loves new adventures so car rides and walks are very important. She loves being pampered and adores attention. A good ear rub will get you rewarded with lots of kisses!

12/18/2018 Update:  Ms. Mary is ready to find that new family for Christmas! She’s a cuddle bug that loves humans and isn’t a fan of dogs. She hasn’t met a cat yet so not sure how’d she do. She loves wearing clothes and shoes (especially on rainy days as she loves walking in the rain!). She has a very sweet disposition, greets all humans with an ankle kiss, but demands comfort. She can be found snuggled in her favorite blanket on the couch or lounging on the bed most days. She’s full of attitude when it comes to being told no. She will refuse all attempts to pet her and will turn her back to you…but will check often to make sure you’re paying attention to her ignoring you! ❤️ She loves long walks on cold days and going anywhere in the car…but especially loves trips to the dog spa. She’s a girlie girl and loves getting her baths and nails done.

12/24/2017 Update:  Miss Mary is enjoying the 12 days of Christmas! She loves her new Christmas jammies and Rudolph socks and doesn’t want you to take them off…not until 1:00am when she wakes you up cause she’s hot that is. 🤪

We had a lot of rain this week and she loves walking in it. Only a worthy treat will coax her back inside. She enjoys the outdoors and loves the additional walks she gets in this cooler weather.
Mary comes to life outdoors but is very chill indoors, choosing to chew on her bone, play with her toys, take long naps, and snuggle.

She’s a diva and needs to be the only fur baby in the house.

11/26/2017 Update:  Miss Mary had a great week! She got to spend the night with her grandparents while her foster Mom traveled for work. Lots of spoiling and it took her no time to train them! Right now she is making some pathetic noises cause she can smell her peanut butter treats baking but wants to eat them NOW!! I have a feeling Turkey Day will be spent with Miss Mary getting underfoot in the kitchen with all the smells…

11/5/2017 Update:  Miss Mary had a great week.
She loves her pawdicures so much she didn’t even notice the big dog in the room!
The cooler weather means more walks and that puts a smile on her face every time. Her inner puppy comes out when she gets outdoors. She will smell every blade of grass along the way so I’m not sure if we actually burn any calories…but I think it’s her version of stopping to smell the roses. She’s a very happy girl and a great cuddle bug!
Her love of coconut oil, peanut butter, and pumpkin make her coat so soft you can’t help but pet her, and trust me…she’ll let you all day long!

10/30/2017 Update:  Miss Mary couldn’t have any treats for Halloween but she enjoyed every bit of her spoonful of peanut butter!

10/9/2017 Update:  Miss Mary has had a great week. Cooler temps mean longer walks and she will go as often as you’re willing to take her! She chooses the balcony when she can so she can keep track of the neighbor kids. She has regular play dates 3 times a week with a group of 4-6 year olds and loves all the attention they give her!

I bought a new vacuum this week so she’s spent some cuddle time in her kennel…it’s the only time she ever uses it. 😂 It’s adorable how she picks the same baby every time…

I’ve spent a lot of time trying to get her to be ok with other dogs and she does great at being redirected during a walk and she will not respond unless it is a small breed. We’ve tried several times but she really feels the need to protect me from Chihuahuas!

Miss Mary is a very “chill” dog…she enjoys napping a good portion of the day and is always the first to go to bed and the last to wake up. She likes to keep track of her human so she is always either laying on you or cuddled up to you. She’d do best as an only fur baby.

8/7/2017 Update:  This sweet girl is so much fun! She has all of the best bully traits. The cooler weather here in TX means we’re back to taking walks…and this girl has a pep in her step! You can tell she missed her walks. She’s quite the ham. She loves selfies and I catch her looking at herself in glass and mirrors. They say dogs don’t recognize themselves but she sure seems to!!

7/24/2017 Update:  Mary had a great week! We had lots of company so ankle kisses were given to all. She just loves the extra attention.
She really likes her blankets…she’ll paw at one until you cover her up. She usually sleeps in the middle of the bed or lays on my legs, but this week she discovered she likes laying on the pillow and wants the covers up to her neck. She’s a great snuggle buddy!
Mary likes to follow her human at all times, but she’s started entertaining herself with her toys when I’m doing chores. Apparently she doesn’t want to get roped into helping!
Miss Mary is the sweetest bulldog you’ll ever meet and the looks she gives you will melt your heart.

7/17/2017 Update:  I tried to get some action shots of Ms. Mary….but she’s not very active during the hot months! She goes from the bed to the couch and occasionally hits a tile floor. I didn’t share my pork chop so she turned her back on me, but kept checking to make sure I was paying attention. She’s the sweetest girl and occasionally reminds you she’s a bully. 😊 Mary would be perfect for someone retired or that works from home, as she really loves to be with her human!

7/13/2017 Update:   Miss Mary is enjoying her retirement as always. We got our nails done this week and I got the same input I always get “She did awesome! Especially for a bulldog.” 😊 Mary loves being pampered. You can’t pet her, massage her, or cuddle her enough. She’s not a horrible beggar by any means, but she will keep you company while you eat, giving you the look of desperation while licking her greedy lips! Due to the condition her fur was in when I got her, I do not give her human food. I did, however, let her have one bite of ice cream off a spoon this week and I was thanked with never ending kisses! 😘 Mary has come a long way in the past 5 months. She has learned to ignore other dogs on our walks, shows no interest in cats, and now craves the attention of smaller children as she figured out they will pet her non-stop!

6/30/2017 Update:  Not a lot to report. It’s been hot and Mary is a senior so she naps all day on the couch and walks at 5:30am and 9:30pm. She’s the biggest cuddle bug ever! If you sit, she’s either on you or next to you. If I keep getting up, she’ll put her leg on mine to try to hold me down. She loves affection and human touch. She greets my friends with ankle kisses and soaks up the extra attention. She is great in the tub, but really hates baths…but getting those allergens off her I know she feels better! She made the mistake of showing me she was itchy so in the tub we went! Bath time really brings out the bully in her. 😊 It’s quite adorable. As her foster Mom I obviously love this girl…but living on the 2nd story is getting more difficult for her to manage the stairs…if you have a home without too many steps and room in your heart for this gem please apply. I’ve never had a better dog. She’s low maintenance and only wants to be loved. Everyone who has met her, instantly falls in love with her!

6/11/2017 Update:  Mary is just an awesome bulldog. She just wants to be a lap dog that gets a ton of attention. I had to kennel her for the day to have some maintenance done and when I let her out to go potty she went right for the treat jar! She’s not shy…any deviation from her routine requires a treat. 😊 She’s enjoying the couch most of the day with this heat but really enjoys her early morning and late evening walks.

4/24/2017 Update:  Mary had a great week! She has gone from not being sure about small children to seeking them out for the attention. She is still not sure about other dogs, but since she’s very treat motivated, she has learned to be non-reactive when we encounter them on our walks. She is still the biggest cuddler, and decided this week she now wants to sleep under the covers with me, she keeps guard from the bath mat when I shower, and pushes the boundaries of personal space. She really thinks she’s a lap dog! And who can say no to that face?

3/6/2017 Update: Mary is doing GREAT! She is very social and everyone that meets her, loves her. She prefers to spend all her awake time on my lap, chewing on a bone, or going for walks. I introduced coconut butter to her diet and she loves it. No more messes by the food bowl…she gobbles up every piece.. 😊 She does very good taking a bath and loves getting dried, powdered, and massaged. And look at those feet!! Great improvement from when I got her. She is super soft and loves all the petting and belly rubs. She’d let you rub her neck all day….
I have never kenneled her, but she started going in her kennel when I leave and my neighbors have reported that she is no longer barking while I’m at work.

2/26/2017 Update:   Mary is doing great! She loved the weather this weekend. We averaged 6 walks each day. She is so curious about her surroundings…she likes to investigate every inch. She still doesn’t like other dogs, but I just change direction on our walks and she settles right down. She stops to greet everyone we pass…a real sweet heart and super social! She loves car rides, her toys, snuggling on the couch, giving kisses, and multiple walks. Her eyes have cleared up, she’s feeling good, and I’m seeing a younger version of her.

2/20/2017 Update:  Please welcome Mary to the NBBR family. Mary is an 8 year old English Bulldog that weighs approximately 45 lbs.

Mary joined the NBBR family as an owner surrender. Due to a change in her family’s work situation, they made the decision to surrender her and allow her to find a forever family that can provide the time and attention she needs.  After spending the last 8 years of her life with the same family, she begins her next chapter by looking for that special forever family. Mary is a sweetheart of a Bulldog. When she was picked up by our volunteer, she was a little confused at first but quickly settled in and sat right next to our volunteer. Mary went a step further and decided she needed to kiss her transporter each time the car came to a stop.

Mary is 8 years young, but she is starting to show a few ailments that come with age.  It appears Mary has allergies (both environmental and food based), a case of dry eye and some stiffening of her joints.  Mary has an appointment with the clinic today for a check-up and to determine what will be necessary to help with her conditions.  We have already begun by placing her on a special diet that should help with her allergies.

Mary went to her new foster home yesterday evening and settled in very quickly. She is a loving little girl looking for a family that can appreciate the love and sensibilities only an older Bulldog can bring. Is that you? Do you have room for a true southern belle? Then what are you waiting for? Complete an adoption application today.
