12/19/2016 Update: Owen was ADOPTED!!!!  After what probably seemed like forever for his new family, Owen was released from medical hold and was able to join them.  Owen came to rescue with a laundry list of medical issues; being Heartworm positive at the top of the list. Heartworm treatment requires a minimum of 60 days or, in Owen’s case, more.

Owen’s new family fell in love with him as soon as they saw him on the website. They asked if they could meet him despite his medical hold. The meet and greet was scheduled and it was a perfect fit. Then the waiting started…even though Owen looked healthy on the outside we had to wait for the clinic to release him.

Well….all that changed yesterday. Owen and his foster Mom loaded the car to meet his new forever family. Everyone was very excited.  Although it was a bittersweet day for his foster Mom, she was so happy to see Owen go from a very sick, neglected Bulldog to one that has the perfect family. We couldn’t think of a better Christmas present for Owen, his foster family and his forever family.

12/5/2016 Update: Owen had a very exciting Saturday.  We don’t know if it was his first time seeing Santa 🎅🏼 But we went to our vet for a fundraiser for F.I.S.H Ministries and he got to take his picture with Santa 🎅 I think he was excited because when he came out of the room he was doing his little prance that he does when he’s happy. Otherwise he’s packing on the weight and has a follow up appointment on Friday to hopefully get medical clearance and get neutered.

11/27/2016 Update: This week has been pretty mild. He has experienced turkey and love it. He is learning to sit but is impatient for the treat so we don’t get to shake just yet. We have reintroduce the “rope toy” which at first was only Owens.  So now late night Tug of war is a must with his foster sister.  He wins most and she pouts.   Owen is hoping for a clean bill of health at his next visit so maybe he can be with his forever family by Christmas.

11/21/2016 Update: The past few weeks have been uneventful. He looks to be gaining the weight that he needs. With the cooler weather he is wanting to be outside more.

Owen typically is crashed on the couch when he’s inside after playing with his foster sister.

11/7/2016 Update: Owen has had a pretty uneventful week.  He’s just been laying around and chilling.  He will play with his foster sister freckles for the allotted 10 mins and then be separated.  He’s so loving and affectionate.

10/31/2016 Update: Owen here.. yesterday I went on a car ride to see Dr. H. I was tested for heartworms again and unfortunately I am still positive and will have to wait another 30 days before I can be neutered and be ready for my forever home. I also have a urinary tract infection that I will be on antibiotics to help get rid of.  It appears that I need to gain at least another 10 lbs. and that my foster mom couldn’t over feed me at this point. She bought this cool bowl that keeps filling up with dog, so I can snack even when she isn’t home. I love to eat, so this a GREAT thing.

10/17/2016 Update: Owen is doing good.  He has a meet and greet coming up on the 22nd.  He is gain weight each week and I believe he goes back for his heartworm check and we are hoping for a clean bill of health.  Owen enjoys his Sunday relaxation time

10/10/2016 Update: Owen is doing great. We have still had some accidents but with patience and time he will get better.  He is gaining weight like crazy you can actually see it on him now. He is two weekend out from heart worm treatment and has a meet and greet scheduled for the 22nd.  Hopefully he will come off medical hold and get to go to his forever home soon.

10/3/2016 Update: Owen is doing great. He went for his second round of heartworm treatment and hopefully his last. He has expressed much dislike about being kenneled and away from us and his foster sister.  Although his bark is much more peppy than in was when he first came to stay with us.  He is still taking his other medicine and eating really well.

9/26/2016 Update: Owen was really excited to get to go for a long ride. He was up looking out the window and smelling the air like he’s never had the wind in his ears before.  He was super excited to meet all the new people and have everyone love him like he’s the best doggie ever. The ride home was less exciting as he was asleep before we even got around the block and slept better that night than he has since he’s blessed us. His food has been increased to two scoops in the morning and two scoops at night so hopefully he’ll start packing on the weight.

9/18/2016 Update: Let me start by saying he is truely amazing.  I know we don’t know much of his back story but whatever he has been through has not fazed him one bit.  He loves to cuddle, loves the bed/couch, loves taking a bath and even jumps in the unoccupied shower if you turn your back for too long.  He like the little pool outside as well. I think he loves all water. 🙂

He is eating really really well and stops when he’s had enough but does seem very hungry at times.  He has been getting along great with our dog and our children and loves playing tug of war.

9/4/2016 Update:  Owen  is doing really well in his foster home.   It’s been a challenge keeping him calm. He does not like being separated from his foster sister.  He has started playing with toys, which a great improvement from last week. He does the cutest prance when he gets a toy. He’s eating very well and still takes his medicine very easily.

8/29/2016 Update: Owen is doing well. He is settling in wonderfully.  He’s eating good and drinking lots of water. He is staying calm because of his heart worms although there are times where he wants to play with his foster sister Freckles. Owen is very sweet and loving.  He loves to lounge on the couch and absolutely loves sleeping in the bed, beware of snoring. There is lots of it and is loud. :-). He hasn’t had any accidents in the house and lets me know when he needs outside.  Owen is crated trained but prefers to be out with his humans. It is a  little challenging to get him in but once he’s in he’s quiet and rests well.  Owen really hasn’t played with toys much but I think it’s because he doesn’t feel good.  Owen will start his heartworm treatment today, so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

8/24/2016 Update: Please welcome Owen to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Owen is a 4 yr. old male English Bulldog that hit a bumpy patch in his journey. Owen was brought to a Veterinary Clinic with the instructions “please euthanize this dog, we no longer want him”.  Fortunately, for Owen the vet thought this was NOT a good idea and started looking for other options. The clinic called us at NBBR and asked if we would be able to help.  (You already know our answer).  But there were some logistical issues that needed to be addressed before Owen could become part of the NBBR family. The clinic was beyond helpful stating that they would keep Owen until we could work out the logistical issues.

Owen was in Lafayette, LA and the foster family designated to care for him is in North Texas (a six hour drive). So, we quickly put out a plea on Facebook asking for transport assistance. We received a HUGE outpouring of offers to help. We were able to quickly coordinate the transport to get him to his new foster home to get the love and medical attention he desperately needed.  In total, 5 AMAZING rescue angels were involved in Owen’s transport.

Owen joined rescue with a long list of medical issues. The first and foremost issue is that Owen is Heartworm positive. This diagnosis alone will take a minimum of 60 days to treat and is very costly. In addition to the heartworms, Owen has intestinal parasites, infections of the skin, ears, eyes, and he is anemic. Owen will start his heartworm and other medical treatments early next week.

Even though Owen has a long list of medical ailments he has an equally long list of positive things. The first thing you notice on that list is Owen’s personality. When he joined his foster home, the first thing he did was investigate the entire house and proceed to jump on the bed like he owned the place. For everything we are hearing he is quickly using his charm and the love affair with his foster parents has already started.  He appears to get along with everyone he meets (both human and canine). Owen hasn’t encountered any cats as of yet, so we don’t know how he will do with them. Once Owen is released from medical hold he will be on the hunt for a forever family. He will be looking for a family that can shower him with the extra love and attention that he has been missing during this bumpy portion of his journey. IF you think Owen might be the perfect addition to your family don’t wait until he is released from medical hold (we have a hunch that we will be receiving a lot of applications for this handsome guy), please fill out an application today.
