8/10/2025 Update:
Bowie has been ADOPTED!!!! It is with great pleasure that we announce that Mr. B has found his forever family.
Bowie joined the NBBR family via a shelter where he was found as a stray. Bowie’s story started with him being found roaming the mean streets of a DFW suburb. He was quickly apprehended, cause if you know anything about Bulldogs it’s not like they are known for their speed. Once in the paddy wagon, he made his way to the local shelter. Bowie was found in a populated area so the shelter staff thought that someone would come looking for him right away. That didn’t happen. He stayed at the shelter through the “holding period” with no one coming for him. Once he was processed and completed the holding time, the shelter staff contacted us to see if we would be able to assist Bowie in finding his new forever home. We just so happened to have an open foster family, and they were eager to help Bowie. As with all new Bulldogs to the NBBR family, Bowie’s first stop was at the clinic. While he had some known issues (URI and not being neutrered), Bowie did get a clean bill of health in that his ears, eyes and skin appear to be in relatively good shape considering what he has been through.
While Bowie was on his journey to find his forever family, he actually met them early on in the process. You see, his forever family was his foster family. Many of our dogs are currently in our Foster to Adopt program. What that means is that the foster family wants to adopt a dog but for whatever reason at the time we don’t have a match for them. So, they agree to foster until a match happens. Most of the time the foster to adopt program ends with the foster and the family being the match. While many people complain and think “this isn’t fair”, this program was born out of necessity. It is VERY difficult to find qualified foster families these days. Not just for us, but for EVERY rescue, shelter and anyone associated with saving animals. The foster to adopt program is not a shopping spree. The foster family does not get to pick the perfect bulldog. They agree to foster the bulldogs that needs their help. They go thru the same rigorous approval process. Currently, this is the only way we are able to continue to help Bulldogs in need. Without foster families to take help the bulldogs in need, we can’t take them in. NBBR has made a decision to NOT board bulldogs due to the fact that it is almost always a bad situation for the bulldog and doesn’t end well. While we realize that many will not agree with these decisions, we will have to agree to disagree. With all that said, Bowie is another success story. He went from being found as a stray that someone tossed aside to being the apple of his new family’s eyes. Bowie now has two devoted parents, two canine siblings and a human sibling. We are so happy for everyone involved. Congratulations of the highest order are being sent out to the entire family.
PS: Thank you to all of our volunteers, but especially those foster and foster to adopt families as you are the lifeline of our Rescue.
4/18/2025 Update:
Good news from Bowie’s corner of the world! This week marked some important progress for our sweet boy. He’s fully recovered from his neutering surgery and had his stitches removed without any complications.
We’ve seen real growth in his confidence at the dog park too. After initially being hesitant and unsure, Bowie now eagerly looks forward to these outings. He’s become quite sociable, happily accepting attention and pets from the various visitors at the park.
The most heartwarming development has been watching the special bond forming between Bowie and his foster dad. Bowie has clearly chosen his favorite person! When foster dad returns from work, Bowie’s entire demeanor changes to pure joy. His attachment is so strong that he’ll actually sit by the door and whine if foster dad leaves the room after coming home.
This growing sense of security and attachment is wonderful to see in a dog who’s finding his place. Bowie continues to show what a loving companion he can be for his future forever family—someone who’ll be getting a truly devoted and affectionate four-legged friend.
4/2/2025 Update:
Please welcome Bowie to No Borders Bulldog Rescue. Bowie is a male English Bulldog that weighs 65 lbs. and is approximately 5 yrs. old.
Bowie joined the NBBR family via a shelter where he was found as a stray. Bowie’s story starts with him being found roaming the mean streets of a DFW suburb.
We knew that Bowie had a URI that he was being treated (shelter staff had started). During his stay it was determined that Bowie’s URI was resistant to the most common antibiotic used to treat his ailment. So, they had to change course and try a different one. It appears to be working; however, Bowie is still a little snotty. Because of his URI, the shelter staff was unable to neuter him or give him some of his vaccinations. There are also some signs of previous neglect. His paws and legs have some skin issues that will need to be addressed. The good news is that Bowie is heartworm negative and does not have any fecal parasites. We were able to update Bowie on all of his vaccinations and schedule him for his neuter surgery in a couple of weeks. Bowie did get a clean bill of health in that his ears, eyes and skin appear to be in relatively good shape considering what he has been through.
The first thing you notice about Bowie is that he is a very handsome gentleman. Once you recover from that, you notice his VERY LARGE paws. The boy has monster sized feet. While tipping the scales at a svelte 65 lbs., we think that Bowie may need to add some muscle to his frame. IF Bowie can manage to do this, it will be no easy feat as he isn’t that most athletic specimen. He does however, think that is he is the most athletic dude around. This was evident when he tried to jump from the ground to the seat of the SUV bypassing the much closer floorboard. Because of a miscalculation, Bowie landed on the ground and had to be told that he isn’t a jumping dog. Bowie seems to overall be a very chill guy. He is good with the limited number of dogs that he has been exposed to. He mostly ignores everybody else in favor of time with the humans around him. Bowie has joined his foster family late last week and all the updates we have received are all good. Stay tuned for more updates as Mr. B gets acclimated to his new digs and his foster family learn what makes him tick.
