3/14/2021 Update:

Abby has been ADOPTED!!!!!   Ms. A is Bulldog Rescue in a nutshell and we are so happy for your happily-ever-after.

Abby joined the NBBR family as an owner surrender via way of a shelter.  Abby was owned by a family that used her for breeding and then when they had to move “and couldn’t take her”, they dropped her off at the local shelter. Luckily for Abby, that particular shelter had a Bulldog Guardian Angel who is always on the lookout for Bulldogs entering the shelter.  Once the Bulldog enters the shelter the Guardian Angel immediately works to find a Rescue that will take them. The BGA has Bulldogs and knows that Bulldogs take special care and need a dedicated family that knows what to expect and can deal with the issues a Rescue Bulldog can have.  Long story short, the BGA called NBBR and asked if we would take Abby and find her the right family to be her forever family. Like many other Bulldogs that NBBR has been asked to help, Abby was not local and would require transport. This was the day before Thanksgiving 2019 (Rescue never takes a day off) and we were not sure if it would be possible.  But it all worked out and Ms. Abby found her way to Dallas and officially became a member of NBBR.

Yes, you read that right Abby had been lovingly taken care of by her foster family for over a year. We/they knew the perfect family was out there for Abby. The family wasn’t perfect but they were the perfect fit for her. Just like Abby, they were not “local” either.   They had had Rescue Bulldogs previously so they knew what to expect.    So after completing the approval process, the Meet and Greet was scheduled with Ms. A.   It was a little nerve wracking for them, you see, Abby had had a previous Meet and Greet with a lovely potential adopter that had her heart set on Abby.  But Abby being the diva that she is, was having none of it, she did not feel the chemistry and wouldn’t interact with the adopter.   (No worries, the potential adopter met her forever Bulldog through NBBR and it was love at first sight).   With all that said,  Abby’s potential forever family was nervous but hopeful all would end well.  Abby’s new Mom mentioned that she knew that she would cry no matter what:  1) if Abby didn’t like them, they would be crushed and she would cry.  2) If Abby did like them, she would cry mixed tears of joy and tears for the foster family since they have taken such good care of Abby for so long.  As you might have guessed the Meet and Greet went very well. Abby was her usual cautious self, but quickly warmed up to what would be her new parents. After a lengthy interaction, everyone went home, to think about this major decision (even though we KNEW what the potential adopters answer would be as they were immediately IN LOVE with Abby).   Abby’s adoption was scheduled for the next day.

On adoption day, it was apparent that Abby had found her forever parents.  There was no “warm up” time at all and it was apparent to all she was happy.   So happy in fact, that when it was time to load up and get in the car for her trip home, Abby didn’t look back.   A little side note: Yes her foster family were crushed that Abby seemed to “forget” all about them, but truthfully they were so happy to see that Abby was happy and ready to start her next chapter.  They even mentioned that while tough, this is exactly why they signed up to foster and ultimately help many Rescue Bulldogs start their next chapter like Abby did. Abby’s first day with her new forever Mom was a busy one.  Mom works from home, but her co-workers had already schedule a ZOOM call so that they meet Ms. A and welcome her to the family.   Abby is already so loved, that the ZOOM call attendance went from single digit numbers to double digits.   Other than an occasional meeting with her adoring public, Abby is settling into her new home and soaking up more love than one little Bulldog Diva can handle.   Congratulations to Mom, Dad and especially Abby.   To go from being dumped at a shelter and unwanted to her parents pride and joy, THAT is a true happily-ever-after story if we have ever heard one.

2/15/2021 Update:

Hi everyone! It has been really cold here in Dallas, my foster mom came into the living room and asked me what I was doing… I told her it was cold and I was trying to warm my buns. She laughed and walked off… but this is no laughing matter… I was cold! Stay warm… and talk to you soon, I have to go nap now. Love ya Abby.

6/16/2020 Update:

Abby has questions. When do we get to have events again? Does everyone miss me? It makes me so sad that I don’t get to see people, I could barely do ‘Tongue out Tuesday’.

Until then, spread the love, not the Rona!

6/2/2020 Update:

Abby checking in,   nothing to exciting to report.  I am a pretty low maintenance kinda chick.  I enjoy hanging out with my foster sister the most.  We really like to patrol the yard for the evil squirrels that inhabit our neighborhood.  While the squirrels seem to be multiplying and plotting to take over,  we are on “Squirrel Watch”(always)… have no fear… We got this!

4/8/2020 Update:

Hi!
I am doing well, just spending lots of time with my foster family. I don’t know why they are home so much, but i LOVE it. I follow them around all day from room to room, I am wore out by dinner time. I usually have my dinner and say good night!  I am starting to wonder when will they will be leaving for work again, I am missing my daily naptime. I usually take several naps a day, but with all this moving from room to room in the house, I’M TIRED. I have been sitting outside with my foster mom after our evening walk, and that is nice, just to get out of the house. Speaking of getting out of the house, I wonder when the next event is… hopefully soon I am missing my friends and all the extra  attention i get. Gotta go now, foster mom is on the move again, back to the living room we go. Stay safe, healthy and hope to see you all soon!

2/18/2020 Update:

Abby here,
Man, I have been busy since my last update. My life has changed so much. A few months ago I was in a situation where the humans just wanted me to make babies. Not any more! Now I go to events, play with my foster sister and get all the love I want!
You may have noticed or read that I came into NBBR with an eye issue. That is all behind me, I had the surgical correction for entropion and my future looks bright! I love everyone I meet, people, dogs, kids, but not squirrels. I use the dog door and go out when I need to. I am a good girl. That is what my foster family say. I love my foster family, but can’t wait to have my forever home!

2/7/2020 Update:

Hello! Abby here,

I had a great Sunday last week, my Foster family had a ton of humans around cheering and watching some game on TV, I enjoyed all the love they gave me and every so often someone would share a snack with me. Me and my Fur Sister made the rounds inside and out ensuring the floor stayed clean.

I get along well with everyone I meet (I love Big Humans and little humans), my foster sister and I share toys, I like to use the dog door and I love to follow my Foster Pack leader where ever he goes.

I look forward to meeting my future family soon.

Love Abby

11/27/2019 Update:

Please welcome Abby to No Borders Bulldog Rescue.  Abby is a 4 year old female English Bulldog that weighs 40 lbs.

Abby joins the NBBR family as an owner surrender via way of a shelter.  Abby was owned by a family that used her for breeding and then when they had to move “and couldn’t take her”, they dropped her off at the local shelter.    Luckily for Abby, that particular shelter has a Bulldog Guardian Angel who is always on the lookout for Bulldogs entering the shelter. This was the day before Thanksgiving (Rescue never takes a day off) and we were not sure if it would be possible.  But it all worked out and Ms. Abby found her way to Dallas and officially became the newest member of NBBR.

Like all new intakes at NBBR, the first stop was to the clinic to get a complete checkup. Abby had received GREAT care at the shelter but there appeared to be a few issues that Abby would need to have addressed. While at the shelter, Abby was brought up to date on vaccinations, tested for heart worm (she’s negative) and given a preliminary physical.   When our volunteer first met Abby, he noticed that her eyes looked a little “gunky”. Another thing that he noticed was that she peed a lot.   When Abby went to the clinic, they checked her eyes and found that she had entropian.  The clinic staff also determined that she had a UTI, an ear infection and the start of on Upper Respiratory infection.   In addition to entropian surgery Abby needed to be spayed.   Thankfully there was an opening in the surgery schedule so that Abby could get both surgeries done and would be at home with her foster family early Saturday morning.

Abby is a sweet lovable little Bulldog.  She is a little on the skinny side, so her foster family will be working on getting a few extra pounds on her.  While during her photo shoot she looked GREAT, Abby reminded us that the camera adds 10 lbs. We are not sure about the 10 lbs. thing, but agree that she needs some TLC and a little extra weight will look good on her. Abby appears to have never met a stranger (either human or canine).  She is a bundle of energy and LOVES to explore her surroundings.  Currently Abby is chilling with her new foster family and learning the ropes of her new digs and doing very well.   Stay tuned for more details as Abby gets settled and provides us with weekly updates on how she is doing.
