6/30/2018 Update:

Bert was ADOPTED!!!! Bert’s search for his forever family has come to an end, and he is officially off the market.

Bert joined the NBBR family as an owner surrender.  While only 3 years old, Bert has had a bumpy life journey.  Bert was originally purchased from a breeder by a young family.  The family already had a toddler and were expecting another baby. They quickly determined that a puppy and two small children were too much for them. They re-homed Bert to a single lady where things were perfect.  Life was good for two years,  until the combination of Bert’s allergies and his owner’s retirement made it necessary for his owner to make the very hard decision to let Bert go to a home that could better provide for his needs.

Bert’s forever family began their search for a new Bulldog not knowing what to expect. They were interested in helping a Bulldog but wanted the volunteers at NBBR to help them find the “right one”.  Once approved, their search began.  Bert was currently in a foster home where he and another Bulldog were butting heads.  Bert’s forever family was asked if they would consider being part of our Foster to Adopt program.  They said yes and agreed to foster Bert until his forever family could be found.  Like many of our Foster to Adopt participants,  Bert had found his forever home the day he joined his new foster family.. Bert now has a Mom, Dad and a canine sister.  Both of his parents are retired and have plenty of time to shower Bert with attention (which he loves).  Bert immediately bonded with his new sister and loves to play with her as well.  Congratulations to Bert and his entire family.

6/24/2018 Update

Happy Monday Friends!  Bert here.  Great weekend with a visit to The Hollywood Feed store event in McKinney on Saturday.  I loved the car ride up and back and had a good time visiting with the other Bullies and families.  I took in copious amounts of water which was like an open buffet!  Always available!  To be around so many lovers of dogs, Bullies in particular, was fun for me and FM and FD and even Lucy, my F sister.  I got a new toy, a nice red ball with a handle!  But…..it didn’t last 10 minutes with my strong jaws.  I shredded the handle and the strong plastic was no match for me.  FD had to break my heart and take it away so I didn’t start eating the pieces.  I hope they find a stronger one for me!  I love balls!

Last week I also got to go with FD and say hello to all the ladies at our great Veterinarian’s to pick up my medicine! They were all happy to see me!   I am so Friendly!

I’m still finding my way with my F family slowly allowing them to see me completely with all aspects of my personality.  I’m teaching them the best ways to help me with eating so I keep my food down.  I have a few quirks when I get excited or anxious and yesterday I tried jumping onto my FD’s lap to calm down and it was just what I needed! We are all doing well and we are all feeling the love!
Have a great week friends

6/17/2018 Update:

Happy Monday all you Bulldog friends!

Bert here, checking in!  Life in my new foster home is moving along well.  I’ve been with FM, FD, and F sister a week now!  We are all learning everything we can about each other.  I’m relaxing more and more as I see I’m safe and loved.  We had a car ride this last week and I was able to show everyone that I’m great at that!
My FD and I have spent a lot of time playing and just hanging out.  I had a bath this week too! Yesterday my Sister and I started to have some real playtime.  I think she didn’t know how much she needed me.
I love to eat and instead of eating twice a day, my FD breaks it down so I get 4 mini meals!  I like that!  FM has taken to freezing tiny ice cubes of bone broth and let me tell you, that is a treat!  And low cal too! I don’t know what that means, but I like it.

I’m excited about going to the Bulldog Get Together this coming Saturday to meet all the other Bullies and their Foster Families!  There will be lots of living bulldogs looking for their forever homes!  Hope to see you there!
Bert!

6/11/2018 Update:

Bodacious Bert checking in!

Hi folks!  I am Bert!   My FM says I’m bodacious which she says means excellent, admirable or attractive!  FM says I’m all 3!  I’ve only been with my new FM and FD for a few days but I sure am happy about it!FD says he’s thrilled to have another guy in the house and we are pals already. He even lays with me on my new day bed!  At night I have a love seat at the end of the people bed!  Pretty comfy.

I have a FS (sister) too.  She’s something different than me.  She’s well….puny I guess you could say.  A miniature hotdog.  Not the kind you eat!  FM says I am a gentleman where she is concerned.  She’s a senior, but I like old dogs too.

Well her beds are tiny…..I tried them out.  FM said I didn’t fit so the next day I got my own bully bed. It’s comfy and FM says the removable washable cover is a good thing for some reason.

Overall, this new gig is suiting me well.  I am fed, cleaned, hugged and kissed a lot and just seem wanted.  What’s better than that?

5/16/2018 Update:  There is a lot to celebrate here with Bert.  A few weeks ago, we announced that we found Bert’s neck.  That was an amazing discovery.  We knew it was in there, but it took a while to come out.  We now have some more good news… We can now announce that Bert is wearing a collar.  WOW!!  When he came to NBBD, he was, well, a little overweight.  His neck went from his shoulders to his nose, so there was no way to use a collar.  It would just slide right off.  But with a good diet and plenty of sleeping and snoring (boy does this guy make noise) he has lost some more weight, about 10 pounds since he arrived, so he is about 53 pounds or so now and around 3 years old or so.  He really looks like a weight lifter.  He has an amazing physique.  Big, broad shoulders, narrow waist, very toned and a character to boot.  Read up on some of the other updates.  He still acts a little weird when he eats, maybe some allergies were the reason for acting weird around food.  He now digs right in.  We mince some ham with his food and that seemed to work.  He loves to be brushed.  We have one of those glove brushes and when he sees that thing come out, it’s party time.

If you are looking for a crate trained dog, Bert is your man.  He seems to know what time of day it is and if there is a schedule that you generally follow, he gets right to it.  When we leave for the day or it’s bed time, we just start saying “Crate, crate…” and walk with him and he goes right in.  That’s an awesome thing when you are in a hurry to leave.  We have never had an accident with him in or outside the crate or in the home.

Anyway, Bert is one of the most loveable guys you could know.  He gets all excited when you get home, he starts doing his excited wiggly dance and raises his paws for you to shake them.  He gives “dry” kisses.  He’s not a drooly dog, so that’s nice.  He does not shed very much, we have seen worse, and Bert is not that bad.  This guy would make a great addition to any family.

4/22/2018 Update:   Bert is becoming one active Bullie.  He has lost weight and his getting over the allergies and to our surprise, this guy can move fast.  He loves his toys and being around people.  He loves to meet new people and kids.  He’s great with other dogs, although as you have possible read before he was not getting along with Truman, our other foster.  Well, it’s been several weeks since any incident, but we have been very careful on how they interact.  We have dogs all around us, but he’s not interested in going up to the fence and hanging with other dogs, weird.  He’s fine with our Chihuahua’s licking his face once in a while and checking him out.

Bert does have peculiar eating habits though.  When it’s time to eat, he runs away, comes back, does an excited dance for a while, shaking his rump, as if he’s never been fed before and now you just made him his favorite meal and he can’t believe it.  Then he won’t eat for like 30 minutes.  He’s weird.  He’ll make a ton of noises when he finally gets down to eating and drinking, but in reality, he is rather dainty despite the ruckus you hear.  He’s a surprisingly neat eater.

I think Bert’s perfect forever scenario is to have young, energetic people around that can do some rough housing when the time comes.  The awesome thing is that when he starts to get rough, you just tell him to stop, and he stops.  He really likes walks, although not too far and it’s starting to get warm.  He likes car rides and go to new places and meet new people.  He loves belly rubs and to give wet kisses.  When he sees you first thing in the morning or when you come home he can’t wait to show you loving.  He lifts his paw as high as it can go and with his body shape, that’s not too high.  It’s funny, but he wants to give you attention.  He is a very quiet dog, but only when it comes to barking.  That’s a rarity, but the grunting and stuff, oy-vey.  Oh, and he’s not that much of a gas passer so if you thought you can blame it on him… you may be out of luck.

Bert wants to be your forever Bullie.

4/1/2018 Update:

Bert’s FD here.  When we first got Bert he was well, maybe just a little overweight.  In his announcement on social media it said that NBBR doesn’t like to body shame any doggie, which is the right thing to do.  But Bert had, well, no neck.  At least that’s what it looked like.  He was solid from his shoulders to his nose, it was a straight line and he could not wear a collar because it would just slide right off.  Well, we have some really exciting news to share…  We think we found Bert’s neck.  Yes, that’s correct.  We knew it was in there somewhere, but it was hard to tell.  He’s been on a strict diet of grain-free foods, organic coconut oil, eggs and sometimes banana, along with peanut butter & ham with his meds and we are happy to say he has lost around 5 pounds and looking very svelte, for a Bulldog that is.

Now Bert would like to say a few words….  Bert… … BERT!

BERT:  Yeah, I’m right here.  So I found out you have been posting our interviews.

FD&M: Yes, we have, we have to.  It’s to help you get adopted.

BERT:  Well, I’d like to interview you.

FD&M:  Ok, shoot.

BERT: Ok, what’s your favorite food?

FD&M:  Ooooh, I really like Mexican and Italian.

BERT:  What is that?

FD&M:  It’s uh…  How can I explain it to you, you’re a dog.

BERT:  Uh.. right, great,… ok, how about this…?  What’s your favorite color?

FD&M:  Well I really like reds and blues.

BERT:  What does that look like?

FD&M:  Uh… I can’t explain it to you…  Hey, wait a minute, didn’t we cover this?   You’re a dog and you’re color blind.

BERT:  What?  Oh yeah… This isn’t going so well.

FD&M:  I agree, you should leave it to us.  Let me wrap this up…

Bert is looking for his forever home.  We have 2 small dogs that he is getting along great with.  He is house trained.  When he wants to go out, he sits patiently at the door.  He has never had an accident since we got him 4 weeks ago.  He is crate trained and knows when it is bed time.  He loves belly rubs and makes every kind of grunting noise there is.  When you come home, he comes up, lowers his head and raises his paw looking for attention.  When we take him out on the town, he always attracts a crowd and loves to meet new people.  He is very possessive of his toys and holds on tight when chewing on them.

Bert would make an absolutely great addition to any family with smaller dogs or no dogs.  We are not sure about cats because we do not have any.  If you have a larger male dog already, there may be issues.  We are currently fostering Truman and they are not getting along very well.  It’s probably just 2 big dogs trying to figure out who’s boss and we are not having that here, because I’m the boss.  Although it may just be a bulldog thing.

3/18/2018 Update:

Bert’s Foster Dad here again.  Bert is really starting to show his true nature.  He is really a big softy at heart.  He loves to come up and get attention and scratches from everyone he meets.  It took a while for this to come out due to all of the changes in his life, but this guy is a true Bulldog and loves everyone.  We wanted to help all of you get to know him better so we asked him some more questions about his life.  His like and dislikes, what he wants to do…  Let’s get to the transcript…

Foster Mom and Dad (FM&D): Hey Bert, you are really getting settled in and I think we are really getting to know who you are, but we want everyone out there to know who you are, so we have some more questions for you…

BERT:  OK, shoot.

FM&D:  So, what’s your favorite color?

BERT:  ….   …. (silence)

FM&D:  Bert…

BERT:  … …. (cricket…. cricket)

FM&D:  Bert!

BERT:  Uh, yeah, I heard you…

FM&D:  And…

BERT:  I’m a dog dude.

FM&D:  Yeah and…

BERT:  I’m color blind…

FM&D:  Oh… Oopse.  Next question.

BERT:  Right.

FM&D:  Do you have any pet peeves?

BERT:  Yes.  Do not play with my toys!!

FM&D:  Well, we can definitely see that.

BERT:  And, if I hear one more Ernie reference, I will fart in your general direction!

FM&D:  Yikes!!  That sounds familiar.  Was that in a movie?

BERT:  I don’t know.  I’m a Bulldog, that’s what I do.  Who is this Ernie guy anyway?

FM&D:  Alrighty then.  What are your likes?

BERT:  I am finding that I am liking the finer things in life.

FM&D:  Such as?…

BERT:  Jewelry and fast cars

FM&D:  What?

BERT:  Yeah, like Ferrari’s.

FM&D:  Well, you’re not getting one.

BERT:  C’mon!

FM&D:  Nope!

Bert is an awesome dog!!  He is crate trained, house trained.  He has had no accidents in the house and good with most other dogs.  We have 2 Chihuahua’s and we have not had any issues.  We are also fostering Truman, but they sometimes have disagreements so we keep them separated most of the time.  If they’re together we make sure it is supervised.  Bert is up for adoption and if you can share this post so we can get him to his forever home, that would make him very happy.

3/11/2018 Update:

Hi Everyone,

Bert’s Foster Dad here.  Bert came to us 2 weeks ago as an owner surrender, which is awesome that people would surrender their pet instead of selling them online to just anyone.  Bert is now in The Woodlands with us and is settling right in.  We got to know him while we still had Phoebe and they pal’d around like old buds.  To get to know him better we started to ask him questions about his life and the reaction we got was quite surprising.  Here’s a transcript of some of the conversations we had with him…

Foster Mon and Dad (FM&D): So, how was your trip down from Dallas?

Bert:  You know what, it was kind of long.  Couldn’t you live a little closer?

FM&D: Um, well, we live where we live.

Bert: Well, being closer would have been cooler.

FM&D:  …Ok…

FM&D:  So you make a lot of really weird noises, what’s up with that?

Bert:  Are you kidding me, I’m a Bulldog.  I make noises.

FM&D:  Yeah, but, you REALLY make noises, like a lot.

Bert:  Ok, next question…

FM&D:  Alrighty…

FM&D:  So you now have some foster siblings, 2 Chihuahuas, Ace and Bruiser.  What do you think of them?

Bert:  They’re really cool.  They’re pretty chill and we get along great.  In fact, we get along so well I took over their crate and they didn’t say a word.

FM&D:  Yeah, that’s probably because you weigh more than the 2 of them put together.

Bert:  Are you calling me fat?

FM&D:  Well you are a solid 60 lbs.  Do you lift weights bro?

Bert:  What are you talking about?  I eat and sleep, that’s it

FM&D:  Wow, so your physique is all natural?

Bert:  You betcha!

FM&D:  Nice, you’ll have to share your secrets to your shape.

FM&D:  We have another new foster since you got here, Truman. How are things with him?

Bert:  We seem to get along fairly well.  I’m rather selfish with my toys though, and I don’t like others playing with them when I do.

FM&D:  You do know you should share, right?  It’s the polite thing to do.

Bert:  You do know that I’m a Bulldog and have very little cognitive understanding of this human trait you are trying to push on me, right??

FM&D:  Ok, I think we’re done with the Q&A for tonight Bert.  Why don’t you get into your crate?

Bert:  Fine, I’m outie…

Back to reality… Bert is one awesome guy.  He’s very chill, crate trained and house trained and pretty much gets along with anyone.  He instantly hit it off with our little guys.  He’s great with kids and he’d make a great addition to any family.

If you are reading this, please share Bert on your timeline so others can get to meet him and let’s get this guy to his Forever Family as quickly as possible.

3/1/2018 Update:   Please welcome Bert to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family.  Bert is a 3 year old male English Bulldog that weighs 60 bs.

Bert joins the NBBR family as an owner surrender.  While only 3 years old, Bert has had a bumpy life journey.  Bert was originally purchased from a breeder by a young family.  The family already had a toddler and were expecting another baby. They quickly determined that a puppy and two small children was too much for them. They re-homed Bert to a single lady where things were perfect.  Life was good for two years,  until the combination of Bert’s allergies and his owner’s retirement made it necessary for his owner to make the very hard decision to let Bert go to a home that could better provide his needs.

The first stop for Bert was to the clinic for a quick check-up.  Bert is in great shape and was previously loved and well cared for.  Bert was up to date on all vaccines, Heartworm and flea/tick preventative.  The one issue that Bert (like many Bulldogs) has is allergies.  He is currently on medication for those allergies. We are in the process of determining if Bert will need this allergy medication year round or only during certain seasons when his particular allergens are present.  One other small detail is that Bert MAY need to loose a few pounds.  While we are the last ones to body shame anyone, there is nothing cuter than a chunky Bulldog butt,  Bert could shed a couple of pounds to make him even more attractive to his soon to be admiring fans.

While Bert has the good fortune of being ruggedly handsome, it is his personality that puts him over the top. He is the most wiggly butted fun filled little guy around.  He appears to love everybody that he comes in contact (human and canine). Bert hasn’t been cat tested but from what we have seen, they shouldn’t be a problem for him either.  Bert spent the night at the clinic before meeting his foster family and the ENTIRE staff couldn’t stop gushing about what a sweet guy Bert was.   Bert joined his foster family earlier this week and has been settling in nicely.  Please stay tuned for more updates on Bert’s adventures as he begins his search for his forever family.
