12/30/2017 Update:

Dixie was ADOPTED!!!!   It is with great pleasure we are able to announce Miss Dixie will start the new year with a forever family.

Dixie joined the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family as an owner surrender. Actually her “family” was keeping her outside and sold her on a local website.  Luckily for Dixie she was sold to a Guardian Angel that wanted nothing more than for her to be an inside dog AND to find the best forever home. So her Guardian Angel quickly got Dixie and contacted NBBR to help find her forever home.

What can we say, Miss Dixie knows how to make an entrance. She arrived for her Meet and Greet/Adoption dressed to the nines, she was wearing a custom made fur cape by Oscar’s Secret. What better way to stay warm AND turn heads.  Although the weather was cold and gloomy it was nothing but love and smiles at the park today.  To say it was love at first meeting, is an understatement. Dixie was working it with all she had and didn’t even have to.  The Meet and Greet was to determine if Dixie and her new forever fur sister would get along.  They did well and the rest is history.  Not only did Dixie gain a new fur sister, she also has a new human sister and not one, but two, Dads.  As Dixie and her new family were loading up to go home, we overheard plans for a shopping trip to get Dixie “a few things”.  We are confident in saying Dixie will be spoiled rotten.   Dixie went from living with a family that didn’t want her and made her stay outside by herself, to a family where they were “fighting” to see whose bed she would be sleeping in.  If this isn’t a rags to riches story we have never heard of one….. AND the fur cape was just icing on the cake.  Congratulations to Dixie and her entire family.

12/24/2017 Update:  Dixie is happiest when her tongue is out. She loves all people and most dogs and is getting used to cats. She finds a way to sneak into your bed when you leave the house. She loves to play and is getting used to being an inside dog. She had a great Christmas with many bones, treats and toys. She is becoming the spoiled bulldog she was meant to be. She has a meet and greet this weekend and is super excited.

12/18/2017 Update:

Dixie was spayed last week and it did not phase her at all. She wants to be the center of attention and in the middle of everything. She continues to get used to the routine of being an inside dog.  She gets along with everyone but cats. She loves to chase them.  Dixie is working on being the diva she was meant to be. Dixie is looking forward to Christmas and is hoping for Santa to bring her to her new family.

12/11/2017 Update:  Dixie is happy to be an inside dog and is enjoying life in rescue. She met many new friends at the Cork & Growler event. She loves giving kisses and being in the middle of all the action. We have found out she is not fond of cats though. She spends her days relaxing in her bed with cozy blankets and all the bones and toys she can find. Dixie is 3 years old and gets along with other dogs and has never met a stranger. She goes in for a spay and tooth removal then should be ready for her forever home.

12/8/2017 Update:

Please welcome Dixie to the No Borders Bulldog Rescue family. Dixie is a 3 year old female English Bulldog that weighs 52 lbs.

Like many Bulldogs in Texas, Dixie found herself on a local website for sale. Our volunteers immediately called to discuss getting Dixie (this was Sunday). According to her “family”, they did not have time for her.  After talking to them more, it was determined Dixie was living outside. While watching the weather forecast this week and noticing the cold weather on the way, we made it our mission to get Dixie safely into Rescue.  When we met the family, Dixie was in the far back portion of an SUV shaking.  Once safely in our volunteer’s car, Dixie immediately stopped shaking, laid down, put her head on the blanket our volunteers brought for her and started snoring. The GREAT news is Dixie spent last night inside, warm and cozy – not outside in the cold.

Dixie’s first stop was the clinic to determine what medical concerns she may have that needed to be addressed. Having been an “outside” dog, we were concerned she would be Heartworm positive  – thankfully, that is not the case. Dixie is Heartworm negative.  She does however have chronic ear infections and a cracked tooth that will need to be removed.  Also, we are not sure if Dixie has been spayed or not. She does have a scar that could be from being spayed or from a c section.  We are doing testing to determine which is the case.

Despite being deprived human attention, Dixie appears to be a very sweet and loving Bulldog. She will join her permanent foster home today and begin her search for her forever home.  Stay tuned as this little beauty turns on the charm.
