12/29/2018 Update:

Henry was ADOPTED!!! It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce that Henry has found his forever family and 2019 will be the beginning of his happily ever after.

Henry joined the NBBR family as an owner surrender.   We didn’t know Henry’s complete history but here’s what we were told.  Approximately 4 years ago Henry was adopted by a gentleman from a Rescue in another state.  Everything was going well for the entire time, until his owner moved into an apartment and was not able to have Henry.  Henry’s owner found a family that was willing to take Henry.  Henry joined a family that already had 3 other dogs (2 females and 1 male). This was a big change for Henry, since previous to this he had been an only child. The first week went well but, for some unknown reason, the two boys started to fight.  The family then called Henry’s previous owner and said that he needed to be returned to him.  He contacted NBBR to see if we could help.  While we were completely full (no available foster homes) something said that Henry needed help. Henry and his previous owner met one of our volunteers so that Henry could join NBBR.  Henry’s fist stop was the clinic to get a check-up. Unlike most of the dogs that come into NBBR, Henry appeared to be in very good shape and well taken care of.  Henry was up to date on his vaccinations, was current on both Heartworm and Flea/tick preventative and had recently had a Heartworm test to confirm he was Heartworm negative.  All looked good with the exception of an ear infection, but in the Frenchie world ear infections are pretty common.

Henry’s new forever family is no stranger to No Borders Bulldog Rescue.  They adopted Belle last summer and they have all been a happy threesome ever since.  They had been looking to make that threesome a foursome and when Henry entered NBBR, they immediately thought he was “the one”.   Mom and Dad, (especially Mom) was looking for a smaller dog, more “her size”. At the initial Meet and Greet, it was apparent that while Henry is smaller, he is still a handful.   Henry and Belle got along well, as long as Henry remembered his manners.  While Henry is smaller, he did not get the memo and he thinks he needs to be the boss everywhere he goes.  But in true form, one small correction from Belle and Henry calmed down and wanted to play.  After several days of discussion, the decision was made to make Henry the newest addition to the family.   Henry’s adoption day was a VERY cold day, so Belle decided that she would stay at home and the family could catch her up on the details when they got home (smart girl).  With the addition of Henry the foursome is complete.  What a GREAT way to start the new year, as a happy, complete family. Congratulations are definitely in order for the entire family.

12/17/2018 Update:

We’ve hit the two-week milestone with Henry.  He continues to reveal his truest personality to his foster family. He is a gentle soul who’s biggest desire is to simply be loved and appreciated. He loves affection/attention of all types and loves rolling around on the carpet and playing.  He’s been fondly nick-named Tank or Tankie, he is truly a robust specimen of a French Bulldog and the nickname suits him well.

On a paws-itive note, the first week’s concerns about “personal space”, has subsided.  As with any new pet introduction, he may have been trying to push boundaries a little just to see how much he could get away with?  Taken in stride, these behaviors can easily be redirected and modified which seems to be the case now.  Henry continues to thrive in a scheduled environment where he knows he can trust his caregivers to be around and not be gone for extended periods just yet. He doesn’t fuss as much about being safely confined for short periods of time during the day or at bedtime.  He has also shown no signs of destructive behavior of any kind.

Over the last few days, he’s displayed signs of irritability towards his fur siblings…could it be jealousy or an ear infection he’s being treated for?  If it’s the first case, this might be expected considering he’s lived as an only dog for most of his adult life.  The perception of competition for food or attention may have never arisen prior. He has good days and some not-the-best days, but the great thing is he’s gradually learning. He continues to receive ear drops to help fight off any lingering infection which he arrived at the rescue with. Hopefully, he’s just feeling a little punky and needs extra TLC until he captures the hearts of his fur-ever family. With lots of patience and careful supervision, both/either of these potential causes for the irritable behavior can easily be deterred or corrected.  For now we are all embracing the baby steps…Christmas is right around the corner and Henry is definitely trying his very best to make the “good boy” list for Santa Paws.

12/10/2018 Update:   Henry’s doing great and is settling into his foster home with no real issues of  aggression. We have found many scabs on his head, which could have been a result of the prior family’s dogs?  He does show some dominance signs with humping his foster sister, but we correct immediately.  No fights so far, just lots of noise. Henry’s foster sister  is pretty scrappy herself, being a retired country breeder girl.  Henry pretty much leaves Bruno ( his foster brother show is a puggle) alone, no issues at all.  For the most part, he just wants to be with everyone. He doesn’t like the kennel, but we will continue to work at improving his perception of it.

11/30/2018 Update:

Please welcome Henry to No Borders Bulldog Rescue.   Henry is an 8.5 year old male French Bulldog that weighs 30 lbs.

Henry joined the NBBR family as an owner surrender.   We don’t know Henry’s complete history but here’s what we do know. While at the clinic Henry also had a photoshoot with the NBBR photographer (he was a natural).

The first thing you notice about Henry is his little squatty body followed closely by his personality.  Everyone that meets him has a very hard time believing that he is 8.5 years old.  He is very energetic and a very happy go lucky little guy.  When first meeting Henry, he can be very excitable and jumping all over the place.  However, he quickly calms down and decides it is better to sit and be petted than to jump around.  While doing his photoshoot, he was a wild man at first then quickly calmed down to the point that he was over the photoshoot and did not want to pose any longer. It is a good thing that he is a natural born supermodel, we were able to take some very good pictures AND Henry was able go back to more important things (flirting with the clinic staff). Once released from the clinic with a clean bill of health, Henry joined his foster home to settle in and get some much needed Rest and Relaxation.  Stay tuned for more updates on this little firecracker as he gets adjusted to his new surroundings and starts his journey to find his new forever home.
