2/16/2022 Update:

Please welcome Roscoe to No Borders Bulldog Rescue. Roscoe is a 2.5 yr. old male Olde English Bulldog that weighs 71 lbs.

Roscoe joins the NBBR family as an owner surrender.  Roscoe’s previous family had some serious family health issues that required a cross country move.  Due to this move, the family decided they wouldn’t be able to take Roscoe and his brother (Oscar)with them, so they contacted NBBR and asked us to take both boys and find them new homes.   The good news is that we were able to take both boys, however we didn’t have the luxury to keep them together in the same foster home. While not ideal, it was far better than the alternative. While the boys are “brothers” they are only related in that they have lived together.  Roscoe is the “patient big brother” in the sibling dynamics.

Like every new NBBR family member/intake.  Roscoe’s first step was the clinic to get complete physical to determine what type of treatments will be necessary.   We knew that Roscoe would need to be neutered but other than that, it was a guess.   When our volunteer picked up Roscoe, it looked like he had some sort of eye issues going on, we weren’t sure if it was an infection, entropion or cherry eye.   With Mr. R’s wrinkled face, it was hard to get a good look. Add to the wrinkled face and the fact that Roscoe was a wild man we left the official diagnosis to the professionals.   When the professional did see him, he confirmed our suspicions and Roscoe did in fact have an eye infection.  The good news, that it was an infection and should clear up with antibiotics/drops, no surgery currently needed. There is a small chance that Roscoe may need surgery at a later date on his eyes, due to the swelling, we cannot rule it out. Time will tell.  Roscoe was very well taken care of prior to being surrendered. He was up to date on vaccines, heartworm preventative and flea/tick medication.   We did proactively do a Heartworm check and fecal examine since it had been several months.  All tests came back as expected and Roscoe got a clean bill of health.   All Roscoe would need would be the neuter surgery.  He was scheduled for surgery a few days after intake.

When we first met Roscoe, he was very excited and a bundle of energy. Both boys were very excited. (Who could blame them, there was a lot going on.  Roscoe appears to be very laid back.  While at the clinic he encountered a roomful of unfamiliar dogs and did very well.   He was a little whiny, but it looks like that is because he wanted to investigate and play with them so badly, he just couldn’t wait.  Roscoe seems to be a clingy boy.  Roscoe is a big boy, but he is definitely what they would label as a “gentle giant”.   While giant may be an overstatement, his is a big, healthy, strapping boy. Roscoe may be ruggedly handsome and at first glance looks like a tough guy but in reality he is a marshmallow.   We quickly learned that he is a hugger and an attention ho.   Roscoe definitely makes it known when he wants attention.   He will paw at your leg to get your attention and let you know that he needs to be petted, loved or whatever he thinks he needs to convey.  Once given approval he will also jump up and give you a HUGE Bulldog hug.   Roscoe is currently recuperating from his neuter surgery and learning the ropes at his foster home.   Stay tuned for more updates as we learn more about Mr. R.  As we learn more about Roscoe’s personality, we will be better prepared to find the forever family that is the just the right fit.
