5/29/2023 Update:

Ruby was ADOPTED!!!!!

Ruby joined the NBBR family as a stray/good Samaritan situation.   Ruby was found as a stray and dropped off at a local veterinarian’s office by a person that claimed to have found her.  Their first step was to scan for a microchip and nothing. Convinced that there was a family out there missing her, they started the search for her family. One of the Vet Techs at the office stepped up and said that she would watch Ruby until the family that lost her could be found.  All of the staff began an extensive search to find the family that was looking for her, they posted on social media, posted in as many local Nextdoor neighborhoods as possible, and posted physical flyers in the neighborhoods closest to where Ruby was originally found.  They contacted local shelters and other vet offices. Days turned into a week and still no one came forward. Weeks then turned into a month.  After several months, the family that was keeping Ruby decided to get her up to date on her shots, spay her.  It was also determined that she needed to have her palate shortened as her breathing was labored at times. After her surgeries Ruby returned to the family watching her and they continued the search.   After quite some time, it was determined that no one was looking for Ruby.  The family already had several dogs, cats AND a new baby on the way. They determined that it would be best for Ruby in the long run to find a new forever home.  They contacted NBBR and asked if we would take Ruby and find her a forever home.

Ruby hit the jackpot with her forever family.   Having had a Bulldog previously, they are well aware of what they are getting themselves into.   They lost their previous Bullodg awhile ago and felt like it was time to add another Bulldog to the family unit. Ruby  will be an only child and the center of everyone’s attention, which she will love.  Her new Forever Mom and Dad are beside themselves with joy to add Ruby to their family. Congratulations to the entire family are definitely in order.

2/20/2023 Update:

As the weather begins to warm up, Ruby is reminding us how much she loves to be outside. In the grass, sunshine, shade, exploring in the bushes.. she loves it all! When we take her out and about it is funny how many people comment on her spots looking like a cow. She’s one cute little cow dog!

1/30/2023 Update:

In tune with Ruby’s love for water, baths are another favorite of hers. When we recently turned on the water to give her a bath, she sprinted from the other room and jumped over the side, right into the tub! She is too funny. We believe her enjoyment comes from attacking the running water coming from the faucet (with her mouth!), not actually being clean…

1/16/2023 Update:

Ruby had a nice week with lots of walks, naps, and outdoor lounging time with the pretty warm spring-like days. We took her on several golf cart rides in the evenings, which continues to be one of her favorite activities. I think she likes to feel the wind blowing in her ears. She loves to sit in my lap, curl up her tongue between her teeth, and just look out into the neighborhood as we drive around. She seems so at peace and happy.

1/9/2023 Update:

Post holidays, Ruby has been taking advantage of relaxing and recuperating after a busy season. Lots of naps and snores occurring while we have been getting back into the swing of things. Recently, one of her favorite places to nap has been the couch or a lovesac bean bag. We laugh at how fast she can be sound asleep and then the next minute be sprinting around if she hears us shuffling around or grabbing a snack. It is funny how she can be feisty and lazy at the same time!

1/1/2023 Update:

Merry Christmas and happy new year! We celebrated by taking Ruby to the beach. The trip was as much for us as it was for her.. At least that’s what we think she thought. She could not get enough of digging in the sand or chasing the shallow water as the waves hit the shore. Lots of people stopped to watch and admire her spunk. They are always surprised she can run as fast as she does. When she got tired she took a break in our beach chairs (which of course she claimed as her own) or by laying her belly in the cold sand. We love creating memories with her. She continues to bring so much joy and lightness to our lives.

12/19/2023 Update:

One of Ruby’s special quirks is that she loves to sit in chairs. Kitchen chairs, barstools, living room furniture, etc. She thinks she is a human. There have been times when we leave to go out to dinner and when we return, she is sitting at the kitchen table in a chair just hanging out. She is too funny! This week Ruby met and played with a French bulldog. Often times, Ruby is one of the shorter/smaller dogs of the ones she plays with on a regular basis. Around the French bulldog, it was silly to see her try to take charge like she was the boss. She is an energetic bully, nonstop romping and ramping. People often comment that she is unlike other English bulldogs they have seen, slower and lazy. Not Ruby. She is wildly playful and relentless.

12/12/2022 Update:

With winter months in full swing, we have been taking advantage of these warmer days. One of Ruby’s favorite things is to ride on our golf cart. As soon as she hears those keys, her energy level spikes and she starts running to the cart. Since the beginning, we have been very impressed with her athleticism. When she knows it’s time she jumps onto the floorboard and into the seat with one big spring! Since Christmas is right around the corner, we have enjoyed driving around the neighborhood on the cart looking at Christmas lights. Ruby loves to feel the wind in her ears and snuggle with us. I think she would do it for hours if we let her. We will definitely treasure these memories with her.

12/5/2022 Update:

With obvious seasons changing, so does peoples’ wardrobe. We have also notice a specific behavior from Ruby… if winter coats or larger amounts of clothing is warn, she gets a bit uncomfortable. She seems to think she needs to protect us if these strange things are coming towards her family! Definitely something we will continue to work on with her. Winter clothes are not evil. Bulldogs have the most random quirks, don’t they? This week we took Ruby to a tree farm to look at Christmas trees. She had bunches of fun explore the ‘forest’ and smelling all the smells! She continues to want to be as close to us as possible. Whether that is at home or at the gym.. We love that about her!

11/28/2022 Update:

We enjoyed our first holiday of the season with Ruby. What a time to be a bulldog! Ruby, with her spunky personality, acted like the gathering of friends and family were all for her this week. Time to get attention, soak up the belly rubs and even sneak a few turkey treats.. She did her best to help in the kitchen as sous chef and cleaning crew. She is such a blessing, really bringing happiness to our family.

11/21/2022 Update:

With our previous bulldog and the others we have been around, they all seem to have special quirks. We discovered one of Ruby’s recently.. the raspberry noise. It puts her on high alert and she starts running! Mostly towards the sound of the noise but sometimes just in circles. It has given us a lot of laughs! She is such a character. After the difficult year our family has had, we love that she has given us so much love, joy, and laughs. We are unbelievably thankful for her. Quite appropriate for this time of year 😉 Happy thanksgiving!

11/14/2022 Update:

We have been working on a few projects lately which means lots of trips to Home Depot and Lowe’s. Being that those are dog friendly stores, we try to bring Ruby as much as we can. She thrives on the amount of attention she receives! It usually starts in the parking lot and continues throughout the store. Sometimes she likes to ride in the cart surfing down the isles and sometimes she’s trots alongside of us. Stopping to sniff and explore the unfamiliar environment. We love getting to see her adventure side.

11/08/2022 Update:

We recently took Ruby to a dog park in the area. My husband and I were very surprised by her timidness. Instead of playing with the other dogs, she followed us around. Unusual behavior for her. Ruby frequently plays with our friends’ dogs. She will wildly run around for long periods of time. But in this environment, she acted very shy. She continues to keep us on our toes. Around the house, Ruby has picked her favorite spot to lay. She positions herself near the door and remains on high alert. Guarding us from the mail carrier, delivery people and neighbors that walk by. We appreciate that she shows her love to us through her protective instincts.

10/31/2022 Update:

A new adventure Ruby went on this week.. fishing! We took her to a nearby lake. To say she was fired up would be an understatement! She loved watching us reel in the line each time. Even seemed like she was looking for a fish! She is one curious little girl. We love getting the opportunity to show her the world

10/18/2022 Update:

We are really enjoying the weather this time of year. Ruby has been soaking up the fall temperatures. Taking all opportunities she can to sunbathe in the afternoons.

10/9/2022 Update:

This week we started decorating for Halloween. Ruby is my little partner in crime so of course she has been doing her best to “help” me.  She has been intriguing but very unsure about all the pumpkins, lights and different objects at our house and in the neighborhood. Being the confident girl that she is, she has continued to prance around investigating all the newness.  We love her rambunctious and free spirit.

10/2/2022 Update:

This weekend we attended the truck yard event. Ruby is a social pup so she was sure to enjoy herself. Her favorite thing to do is.. to not stop moving. We made laps all around the yard saying hi and getting pets from as many people as possible.  As the weather is getting cooler, Ruby has loved to spend more time outside bathing in the sunshine. She has had enough of the hottest hot summer days! Hooray for fall.

9/22/2022 Update;

Over this summer, we have discovered that Ruby is a water loving dog. Whether it’s a hose, sprinkler, wading pool, etc. she likes it all. Ruby still has some difficulties during car rides, with specific hatred toward windshield wipers, but we take her everywhere we can because she loves to be close to us. Our family has experienced the loss of a few loved ones recently. I think Ruby has had a special way of sensing our grief and has comforted us with lots of snuggles. She has wild amounts of energy but a truly loving spirit. We are grateful for her companionship.

3/28/2022 Update:

Ruby is doing good she is a very sweet dog. She is enjoying being here and being very receptive to training.
She is now at the point where she gets to go with us just about everywhere (that is appropriate). Getting along with everyone and is obsessed with her mom.
3/18/2022 Update:
Ruby doing good many of her same habits still exist. Super snuggler half time and wild woman the other half. Still sleeping in her kennel mostly unless she is rewarded with a night in the bed.
3/14/2022 Update:
Not much has changed with Ruby since last correspondence. Has had a slight relapse in potty training and behavior in the car is a work in progress. Other than that, she is doing quite well and enjoying her time here. Getting along well with all the neighbor’s dogs and well behaved at park when off leash.

3/6/2022 Update:

Ruby is doing well settling in, she seems very comfortable and is not scared to make herself at home. Potty trained for the most part and sleeps well through the night. Much faster and athletic than most bulldogs and can jump onto places she doesn’t belong (it’s a work in progress). She is very food motivated. Some specific puppy behaviors we are working on
1. Has separation anxiety, she does not want to be left alone and will put up a fight when she knows your leaving.
2. Can be territorial over certain bones and items. We are working on “leave it” and how to share.
3. Not very calm in the car, she is all over the place and sitting calmly isn’t part of her repertoire just yet.
Aside from these three things she is a great dog and an absolute joy to come home to. Very personable and big ball of energy.  A definite jewel in the rough.

2/28/2022 Update:

Please welcome Ruby to No Borders Bulldog Rescue.   Ruby is an 8-month-old female English Bulldog that weighs approximately 40 lbs.

Ruby joins the NBBR family as a stray/good Samaritan situation.   Ruby was found as a stray and dropped off at a local veterinarian’s office by a person that claimed to have found her.  Their first step was to scan for a microchip and nothing. Convinced that there was a family out there missing her, they started the search for her family.

Ruby’s first stop was to the clinic, where she received a clean bill of health. After living with a Vet Tech it was apparent that she was very well cared for.   Ruby is ALL puppy.  For those of you that think “Bulldogs are couch potatoes”, “Bulldogs are lazy”, Bulldog aren’t active” clearly have never met a Bulldog puppy.  Ruby is full of energy and sitting still isn’t something that she seems to like to do.    Ruby is an explorer, and no stone goes unturned.   While exploring, Ruby has currently not met a stranger.  While she isn’t pushy when she meets new people (or dogs), she does want attention sooner than later.   She typically hunches down with her butt in the air wiggling from side to side.  Ruby joined her foster home and is currently settling in; from all reports she is handling the change nicely and her foster parents are in love already.   Stayed tuned for more updates as we learn more about this precious gem.
