6/8/2019 Update: Ryan was ADOPTED!!!!!  We are so HAPPY to announce that Mr. Ryan has found his forever home.

Ryan joined NBBR as a transfer from another Rescue. Ryan was surrendered to this Rescue by his owners after they no longer had enough time for him.  The Rescue that initially took Ryan in was an all breed rescue.  While they help many dogs of all shapes and sizes, the woman that runs the Rescue has a Bulldog and immediately knew that Bulldogs are a very unique breed and they are not for everyone.  She wanted a group that was dedicated to Bulldogs to be the one to help Ryan.  She contacted NBBR and asked if we would be willing to help.  The answer was obviously YES.  A NBBR volunteer quickly picked up Ryan and he made his way to the DFW area. Ryan had a “bump” on his eye. Due to the severity of this condition it was determined that he needed to go to the Ophthalmologist. There was good news and bad news after the visit with the Ophthalmologist.  Ryan had Entropion. Entropion is when the eyelids turn inward and rub on the surface of the eye, causing damage and pain.  Ryan had Entropion in both eyes.  The large red “bump” on his eye was caused by the Entropion rubbing on his eye.  The rubbing was so bad that it rubbed a hole in his eye and the “bump” was actually the inside of his eye coming out. Due to this, Ryan had already lost vision in that eye and the eye has started to atrophy.  It was determined that the best treatment for Ryan would be to remove his eye.  This was not an easy decision, but the best one for his long term health and happiness.   Ryan had the necessary surgery for both eyes. One eye was removed and the Entropion was corrected in the remaining eye.

Ryan’s journey to his forever home is an interesting one for sure. Ryan is in a forever home with a forever Mom, Dad and canine brother.  Ryan and his brother share several things besides their parents.   Ryan and Emerson (brother) share NBBR foster parents as well.   Emerson is an NBBR alumnae and was adopted by his parents last year.  His foster parents and forever parents have kept in touch (as many of our foster/adopters do) and even get together on occasion.  The last time they got together was for an innocent play date for Emerson and their current foster (Ryan). The play date went very well and everyone had a great time and went back to their respective homes.   But forever Mom and Dad kept thinking about Mr. Ryan… they had another dog that had passed away. Although Emerson was doing well, they thought he was lonely and was thinking about a sibling for him.  Well, you guessed  it.  Ryan had left his mark on the family and they soon called to asked if it would be possible for them to add Ryan to their family.  Having had other Bulldogs before Emerson they were very prepared to tackle the ‘issues” that Ryan brought with him. The fact that he only has one eye? No problem.  The fact that he has allergies? No problem.  Ryan had already secured his brother’s approval. Mom and Dad were in, so the rest as they say was history.  There wasn’t anything that they weren’t willing and able to tackle.  To make things even more special, on adoption day Ryan’s older human brothers attended to welcome him to the family.  It was a great day and we know that Ryan will be one spoiled little guy from here on out.   Congratulations to the entire crew.

3/11/2019 Update:

Hi there friends!

Sorry about my delay in getting out my update. My foster parents have been keeping me very, very busy.  It all started at the Mardi Paws event, two weeks ago.  For my friends that couldn’t make it – well you missed something great. I led the parade in my pirate boat.  Everyone said I stole the show!

Last weekend I stayed in the humans bed and we did something called “binge watching” on Netflix.  I was enjoying it and needed rest but I longed for more times of  being in a parade. I kept having this recurring parade dream so I decided to make it come true. I simply found a box. I taught my foster parents how to play parade and I was once again on the float.  It was so much fun!!!!

Well this weekend, we ran errands to Home Depot, Hollywood Feed and then we hung out at this cool place called Katie Trail. I had my own seat and sun glasses. So many people came by and met me. My foster parents told them about my search for my furever home.  I am very excited to know that I soon will have the perfect family. I’m continuing to hope for a forever family that will play parade with me, let me ride shotgun in the car, and take me on lunch or dinner dates. Please look through all the fun pictures and videos I am sharing. I don’t want anyone to forget about me!!  Until we see each other again…..
Ryan

2/18/2019 Update:

Boy have I been busy!  I’ve settled into my new foster home quite nicely. I’ve been working on training my new foster parents on what I like and what I love!  They are doing pretty good, they have learned that I love pumpkin and green beans!  I finally trained them to give me lots of kisses and lots of belly rubs. They were fairly easy to train, however we still have one issue. Sometimes I like to go potty in the house and my foster parents do not like it. I’m not being a bad boy, I’m just  young and so we are working on a compromise. (That means I’m going to go potty outside like I’m supposed to!)

I really love this little purple ball my mom gave me. I carry it around and protect it. When I want to play, I get the bigger ball and wrestle with my fur sister or brother.

My foster parents said I’m going to go to this event called Mardi Paws on March 2 from 12-4 pm at the Maverick Harley Davidson in Carrollton TX.  Please come out and see me!!

I’m hoping to get some rest now, I’m hoping to meet my forever family very soon.  In loving, and gentle and can’t wait to have my own home.  I’ll check in soon.

1/28/2019 Update:

Hi there!  I’m excited to share that I am in a new foster home!  I took a long car ride (more than 4 hours) in 2 different cars and met some very nice people along the way.  When I finally got to my new place, I met my new foster fur brother and sister.  They were waiting for me outside and they were so nice to me.  My new foster mom & dad kept petting me and telling me how handsome I was too.  They made me feel so welcome.  I’m trying to be very good at my new place, but I am still nervous.  I have lots of toys and warm blankets and a brand new bed to snuggle in.  I will send updates frequently so everyone can learn more about me and how very special I am.  I’ve been looking for my perfect furever family – I can’t wait to find them, are you that special family?

Talk to you soon,
Ryan

1/8/2019 Update:  Hello everyone. Ryan here. I’m so glad the sun is out again. It makes me want to play and play some more. I like acting like I’m a wrestler jumping from the top ropes and landing on my foster sister. She don’t care for it to much though and will gripe at me. But I’m a happy playful boy and it doesn’t bother me to much. I really want some dogs to play with. I’m hoping my forever family has one. Till next week.
Ryan

1/1/2019 Update:

Hey everyone it’s me Ryan. I have been a good boy and Santa brought me some fun toys to play with. I liked opening them a lot. I have been working really hard at being good in the house and not chewing on things that are not mine. I chew on the bones and bull horns all day. And play with my toys in between. I hope my forever home has a yard to play in and another dog that likes to play. The resident dog here doesn’t like to play and if I try she lets me know immediately she isn’t interested. But I still like her cause she lets me lay by her and sometimes half on her. I can’t help it. I love snuggles. I hope everyone has a Happy New Year. And I hope I get a forever family.
Love
Ryan (Rye Rye)

12/17/2018 Update:  Ryan here.  Not much to report this week. Foster mom is trying to get control of my skin issues so I’ve had lots of medicated baths and she switched me to a new dog food to see if that helps. Other then that I’ve been playing with all the toys and getting into things that are not mine. I’m trying to be good now cause I hear Santa Clause is coming next week. I’m excited to see if I get new toys. Till next week.  – Ryan

12/10/2018 Update:  So we are butt deep in baths for Ryan, trying to get his skin (staff) infection under control.  In addition to frequent baths, he is on antibiotics and allergy medication. The good news is that the treatment appears to be working. As for allergies he is taking his main pill every other day and 2 Benadryl on the day he doesn’t take  the allergy pill.  Other then that he is still the happy little playful puppy that gets into some kind of mischief every time he gets a chance. He is such a cute little lover boy. Till next week.

12/3/2018 Update:  Ryan is doing good   Some of his skin itches have returned since Sunday was first day off his antibiotics and going to every 3rd day for allergy meds. Have had to give him Benadryl once while giving allergy meds also. I will keep working to find what works for him. He does get into things if not watching him like a baby. Last week he destroyed the remote. He also took 2 of my shoes into his crate but not shoes of the same pair 😳🤣 (he is definitely a chewer). Also he has got into my purse twice this week. Yep my wallet went right into his crate chewed some credit cards😳next time he got everything out of it scattered everywhere in living room thank god my money had blew under the couch and I saw him in time😱😱 (I really need to work on putting EVERYTHING where he can’t get it.) But he is a fun guy to have around and I love him to pieces. His foster sister and him get a little bit closer to each other every week. Till next week

11/27/2018 Update:   Ryan is doing good. Healing as you can see. He isn’t scratching much so the itching must be gone thank god. Hopefully when he goes off antibiotics this Sunday it won’t flair up again.   Till next week

11/20/2018 Update:   Ryan’s skin and itching are doing so much better after the visit to the vet. He is also requiring 2 baths a week for two weeks in the medicated  shampoo,  then cleaning the spots with different medicated shampoo every day that was from the vet . also more of the antibiotics that he had been on. 2 more weeks 3 in the morning and 3 more at night. He has also started Apoquel for his severe allergies. Ryan is still a happy fellow and he is leaning to relax after playing and will nap on the couch now. till next week.

11/12/2018 Update:   I am happy to report that I didn’t chew any of foster moms things this week. Although I did remind her to clean the toilet by brings the toilet brush into the living room a couple times. F Mom also bought me some pajamas to help me with my itching. Also she started putting coconut oil on some spots on my neck an my f sister has been giving me a bunch of kisses trying to get it off me so it’s a good thing I like my pajamas. And let’s face it. I’m a real cutie in my pjs. Till next time. – Ryan

11/5/2018 Update:  Ryan is doing really well settling in. He is learning the rules of the house and does well but he is still young and gets into mischief daily. He is a bouncy happy boy and is excited when anyone comes over.  His skin has improved with his medication and the limited ingredient dog food. He has one more week of antibiotics and I will see if I need to get a refill on them. Till next week.

10/29/2018 Update:  Ryan is doing well besides skin issues (possibly staff infection on a sore on his leg) it broke out fast and had the vet look at when was there getting rest of his stitches out. . He is on natural balance dog food sweet potato and buffalo so hopefully that will clear his skin up.  He is a very happy dog and finds ways to amuse his self . We enjoy 3 walks a day to get rid of some of his energy. The loves chewing on things, his bones, the leashes, my one good chair🙄. And he is crate trained.  And the crate is about the only time he will lay down and sleep for more the 15 minutes. Till next week.

10/22/2018 Update:  Ryan is doing good. He got some of his stitches out Saturday and will get the rest out this week. This pic is one of the few times he slows down to rest. He is usually playing. Not much to report. Mainly getting him on our household schedule   Till next week.

10/15/2018 Update:  Ryan is settling into his foster house nicely. The things we know so far : he loves toys , is very playful, and will flop over for belly rubs at any given moment. He does have some behavior that needs correcting.  Ryan needs to learn his manners. Ryan and his foster Mom are working on potty training and no humping .

10/10/2018 Update:  Please welcome Ryan to No Borders Bulldog Rescue family.  Ryan is a 1.5 year old male English Bulldog that weighs 57 lbs.

She wanted a group that was dedicated to Bulldogs to be the ones to help Ryan.  She contacted NBBR and asked if we would be willing to help.  The answer was obviously YES.  A NBBR volunteer quickly picked up Ryan and he made his way to the DFW area.

As with all new NBBR Bulldogs the first stop was the clinic.  The first thing you noticed when you meet Ryan was that he has a large red “bump” on one of his eyes.  This isn’t the typical cherry eye that is common with Bulldogs. This “bump” was on the middle of his eye. Due to the severity of this condition it was determined that he needed to go to the Ophthalmologist. Thankfully he was able to be seen first thing the next morning.   There was good news and bad news after the visit with the Ophthalmologist.  Ryan has Entropion. Entropion is when the eyelids turn inward and rub on the surface of the eye, causing damage and pain.  Ryan has Entropion in both eyes. It was determined that the best treatment for Ryan would be to remove the eye.  This was not an easy decision, but the best one for his long term health and happiness.   Ryan was had the necessary surgery for both eyes late last week, one eye was removed and the Entropion was corrected in the remaining eye.    In addition to the eye issues, Ryan has a minor skin infection that appears to be caused from allergies.

Ryan joined his foster family this past weekend where he is settling in nicely.  While ruggedly handsome, he is Bulldog “puppy” through and through.  He has a lot of energy and according to his foster Mom,  a little work to do on his inside manners.  Ryan appears to like everyone he meets, but does want everyone he meets to know he is the boss.  He likes his new foster sister but has been trying to hump her, just so she knows who the boss really is.   Ryan also is working on his potty training.  Considering the week that he had last week, (he looks like he was in a bar fight and didn’t fare well), Ryan is a loving, happy little guy.  He is currently getting some much needed R&R and focusing on healing. Stay tuned for more updates as we learn more about him.
