7/11/2026 Update:

Walter loves the sun!   Even with the rising temperatures he still enjoys sunbathing as long as foster mom will let him.  He has changed locations and has moved from the hot cement to a spot on the grass or outdoor rug.  He is rewarded with frozen banana pieces as a treat for going to the bathroom outside and enjoyed some watermelon too!

Walter finished up medicine for his UTI.  He had already  finished heartworm treatment but we are waiting one more week to start our walks- temperature pending, of course. However, his energy is back and Willow is so happy to have someone to chase and play with.

We continue to work on potty training.  There is just one stretch in the afternoon that we struggle with.  Overall, Walter is an absolute love bug!  All you have to say is belly rub and he immediately stops whereever he is and rolls right over

6/28/2026 Update:

Walter is a different dog this week.  We are happy to see he is getting his energy back after heartworm treatment. After a few weeks of choosing to hang out solo on the cool floor, he is ready to be back in the mix for attention.  

6/11/2026 Update:

Walter just completed his second round of heartworm shots. They are a little painful and knock him off his game for a few days. However, we are really happy the hard part is over. Now we finish this round of oral medication. If the next heartworm test is negative, we have no reason to think it won’t be, he can go back to a normal life. He has been a real trooper through it all. Behaviorally, Walter struggles if he is not the center of attention. He likes to have his own 1-1 time so he can relax and get his belly rubbed in peace. Willow is really nosy and she likes to break up his attention time if she can. Walter is going to be better in a house where he can be the center of attention. He isn’t clingy, but just likes his own time when he is ready.

5/25/2026 Update:

Walter is doing quite well after suffering the indignity of loosing his “man-hood”. He was back on his feet almost immediately. Being heart positive is definitely not cool. The doctor says he needs to take it easy during the treatment. That has put a damper on his long walks, squirrel hunting and playing chase with Willow. He misses his activities, but it won’t be long before he is back to the zoomies. He is amazingly fast and jumps like a gazelle. Walter loves to have his belly rubbed and his coat is like a mink coat. It is so soft and smooth. Hit and runs are his style of interacting. Pet me for a while and then let me lay on the cool floor. Rinse and repeat. He is such a cool guy, he just needs to get back to being himself.

3/24/2026 Update:

Please welcome Walter to No Borders Bulldog Rescue. Walter is male French Bulldog that is 4 years old and weighs 32lbs. 

Walter joins the No Borders Bulldog Rescue by way of owner surrender.  Walter and his sister Willow are a bonded pair that have had a bumpy life lately. Prior to September their history is almost non-existent. They were purchased as a set by a local family after they lost their previous Frenchie. They were told one story and found that the most of that information was incorrect.   After many trips to the vet the family decided that they were not able to care for Walter and Willow any longer. They contacted NBBR and asked if we could take them in and find them a home (together).   For those not “in the know” with Rescue these days, finding qualified foster homes has become VERY difficult and that is for ONE dog.  To find a home that could handle not one but TWO is even more difficult.  BUT we did have a family that had previously adopted from us and had just completed an application to adopt again.   However, ideally, they wanted ONE English Bulldog as that was what they always had.   Well, as a hail Mary, we contacted them to ask…. after hearing about Walter and Willow their only question was “When will they be arriving”? The ONE English request had morphed into TWO Frenchies in a matter of minutes.  But if you think about it, it’s kinda the same amount of dog (in poundage), just two packages instead of one.

Now the details, we knew that Walter was Heartworm Positive and needed to be neutered. So, he and Willow’s first stop was the clinic to see what else might be needed. The good news was that other than being Heartworm positive, Mr. Walter got a clean bill of health.   We are working with our Vets and have already begun his treatment.   In addition, we updated his vaccine status and gave him a microchip. After an exciting day meeting the clinic staff Walter was ready to head to his foster home. And that is exactly what happened. When he arrived at his foster family it was love at first sight. Especially between the pups and their new human brother. While our volunteer was reviewing the pair’s care regime, both pups and their foster brother disappeared to his room to play and get to know each other.  It was indeed confirmed that it was love at first sight. 

Walter is the “more energetic” of the two.  When our volunteer picked them up while Willow introduced herself, Walter was anything but quiet and was running around at the speed of light. So far, we know that he likes car rides, meeting new people and running like the wind.  According to his surrendering family he is pretty low key once he settles in and gets comfortable.   Like all Frenchies he does have the zoomies (often) and then he’s out.   He is more independent than his sister and prefers physical interactions than cuddling.   For now, that is what we know but priority one for his new foster family is to learn as much as they can about what makes him tick.   AND that is exactly what will happen. Stay tuned for updates as the dynamic duo settle in and start their new forever life.
